　真夜中からおかずを作り朝売っている煮売屋さんはお客さんが絶えません。

今日は娘さんが店を手伝っていました。

だいたい７時をすぎるとおかずは売り切れになります。

　こちらの人は朝が早いですね。

朝６時半なのに草刈りが終わって刈り終わったあお草がいぶっています。

This stew shop starts making side dishes in the middle of the night and sells them in the morning, so there's a constant stream of customers.

Today her daughter was helping out in the shop.

People here are early risers.

　寒気がして寝汗をかいていた頃つかった木とパイプで作った布団干しが不要になりました。

干したときに場所をとるシーツと厚手の乾きにくい足拭きを扇風機で乾かしています。

ベランダの物干し場は洗濯物をたくさん干すことができます。

外に干せばいいのに室内で干している自分の意固地にあきれています。

一人暮らしですから問題になりませんが連れ合いがいれば間違いなく紛争の種になったでしょう。

 I no longer need the futon air rack made from wood and pipes that I used when I used to have night sweats.
It would be a waste to throw it away, so I now use the pipe airing rack instead.
I use a fan to dry sheets, which take up a lot of space, and thick, slow-drying foot towels.
I can hang out a lot of laundry on the drying rack on the veranda.
I'm amazed at my own stubbornness for hanging out laundry indoors when I could just hang it outside.
I live alone, so it's not a problem, but if my wife were here, it would definitely be a source of conflict.

という感覚から解放されることは精神衛生上から良いことです。

食事後フロスを使ってはさまったものを外す煩わしさから解放されました。

来週から治療に入ります。

２、３週間かかりそうです。

I had a natural white denture fitted for my lower left molar.

I've been experiencing a strange sensation since getting the denture.

I'll wait and see for a while until I get used to it.

I no longer get food stuck between my teeth.

It's good for your mental health to be free from the feelings you have while eating -- wondering if something will get stuck, feeling uncomfortable if it does, feeling like something's stuck, or that something's stuck.

I no longer have to floss after meals to remove anything that gets stuck.

Next is my upper right molar.

Treatment starts next week.

It's likely to take 2-3 weeks.

　市内の品揃えが豊富なモールに買い物に行っても日本人の姿を見かけません。

韓国人の方が夫婦・親子連れで買い物をしています。

店は売り上げの多い商品を陳列します。

”停電になるな”と思いろうそくやライターを用意しましたが停電は起こりませんでした。

停電が無かったことは喜びました。

ろうそくやライターを用意したのに使えなかったのは少し残念でした。

複雑な気持ちでした。

どうしたらココナツオイルを使い切る事が出来るのかが台所の課題です。

Even though the oil was new, fine white bubbles formed all over the oil.
I thought, "Maybe it's because of the cake flour," but it seems that's not the case.
I turned off the gas and looked at the oil I'd just bought today, and it was coconut oil.
I made a mistake and bought the wrong oil because both canola oil and coconut oil start with the letter C.
I bought four bags of coconut oil.
My kitchen challenge is figuring out how to use up all the coconut oil.

新しいお店。A new store opened.

　道路を挟んだ住まいの向かいに新しい店ができました。

その店が出来上がる前は酒を飲ませるカラオケの店だったらうるさくていやだな。

せっかく静かな処に越してきた意味がなくなってしまうな。

等々心配しました。

　出来上がったお店はサリサリストアだったので安心しました。

近くに同じタイプの店が３軒あります。

３軒とも住まいと店がつながっています。

この店は通いです。

大丈夫かな・・・

Before the store was completed, I was worried that it would be a noisy karaoke bar that served alcohol.

I was relieved to find that the new store was a sari-sari store.
There are three similar stores nearby.
All three are connected to their home.
This store owner commutes to this store.
I'm curious if it's okay...

The name comes from the Tagalog word "sari-sari" (various)

歯医者さん。Dentist.

　歯医者に行ってきました。

隙間のある冠歯を外しました。

デンティストは　この歯は３０年前に処置したんですか　といって驚いていました。

外した歯を掃除して歯型をとりました。

今日の歯医者の措置は１時間以上かかり背中が強張りました。

仮歯を入れました。

予想したことですが日本と比べると大雑把です。

次回は10/08に型をとった歯を入れるようです。

 I went to the dentist.
They removed a crowned tooth with a gap.
The dentist was surprised, saying, "Was this tooth treated 30 years ago?"
After the crown was removed, the tooth was cleaned, and an impression was taken.
Today's procedure at the dentist took over an hour, and my back was stiff.
They put in a temporary tooth.
As I expected, it's a bit rough compared to Japan.
It seems that the next time I'll get a new crown is on 10/08.

食べたのは２、３０年前なので味は忘れてしまいました。

花が終わった後茎から空を指して出ます。

　オクラのぬか漬けは美味しいんですよ。

ランチョンマット。Placemat.

　庭をみながら体を木のトレーの上にのりだしてトーストを齧った。

トーストの破片がテーブルクロスに落ちて蟻が来るのを防ぐためだ。

ランチョンマットの横幅は丁度いいが丈が短いのだ。

新しい大きなのランチョンマットを買えば済むことだと気がついた。

食事が終わってからランチョンマットは６枚あるから重ねて使えばいいことに気がついた。

なんでいままで行儀の悪い食べ方を続けていたんだろう。

なんでこの事に気が付かなかったんだろうと思った。

柔軟性のなくなった自分の思考を恥じてハーっとため息を付いた。

ランチョンマットの使い方を変えてからテーブルクロスを汚さなくなった。

　今までになかったことだが最近食事中にものをこぼすようになった。

アーアーと思って自分を責めたが責めても仕方のないことに気がついて止めた。

いまは食事中にものをこぼさないように気をつけながら食べている。

仕方のないこととはいえ少し悲しい。

食生活の問題から気をそらすために、「体の動きに問題はないから大丈夫」と言い聞かせて責任転嫁しました。

それは今まで経験したことのない感覚でした。

The placemat was just the right width, but too short.

I realised that I could just buy a new, bigger placemat.

After finishing the meal, I realised I had six placemats and could just stack them on top of each other.

I wondered why I had continued to eat with such poor manners up until now.

I wondered why I hadn't realised this before.

I sighed, ashamed of my inflexible thinking.

Since I changed the way I use my placemats, I no longer soil the tablecloth.

Lately, I've been spilling food while eating, which never happened before.

I blamed myself for it, but then I realised there was no point in blaming myself, so I stopped.

Now I'm careful not to spill food while eating.

Even though it's unavoidable, it's a little sad.

 To distract myself from my dietary issues, I shifted the blame by saying that it was okay because there was no problem with my physical movements.

I realized that to distract myself from the issue of my dining etiquette, I was shifting the issue and pretending to be fine by saying that there was nothing wrong with my physical movements.

It was a feeling I had never experienced before.

　先日携帯を家に置き忘れて外出しました。

翌日に携帯の着信履歴を見るとセブの領事館から着信がありました。

こちらからかけ直し要件を訊ねました。

在留予定期間の問題でした。

在留予定期間が２０２４年になっていたのでその確認電話でした。

５年間の延長をお願いして了承を得ました。

めでたし々・・・

 The other day, I left my cell phone at home and went out.

When I checked my cell phone's call history the next day, I saw that it was from the consulate in Cebu.

I called back to ask about the requirements.

It was a question about my intended period of stay.

My intended period of stay was set at 2024, so they were calling to confirm that.

I asked for a five-year extension, which was approved.

All's well that ends.

理由は明快です。

日本人の観光客が少ないからです。

The reason is clear.
Because there are few Japanese tourists.

書類に記入して２年間延長して自宅への郵送を依頼しました。

日本食品はいつも行く店で買いました。

I filled out some paperwork, extended it for two years, and requested that it be mailed to my home.
The person in charge said it would arrive in October.

ここ数年それが顕著になりました。

嗜好品が極端に少なくなりました。

たたみいわし、くさや等がまちのスーパーから姿を消しました。

わざわざデパート迄買いに行かなければいけないようになりました。

　ここに来た１８年前はアロナビーチには日本語が溢れていました。

今アロナビーチに日本語はありません。

やはりこの事が大きな要因と思います。

 There's something I've thought every time I go shopping in Japan.
This has become even more noticeable in the last few years.
Articles of taste have become extremely scarce.
Items like dried sardines and kusaya have disappeared from local supermarkets.
Now I have to go all the way to the department store to buy them.

 When I came here 18 years ago, Alona Beach was full of Japanese words.
Now there's no Japanese to be found in Alona Beach.
I think this is a major factor.

これは構造を変えない限り今後も下がりつづけるでしょう。

　反対に税・社会保険料は上がり続けています。

諸外国の多くでこの国民負担率であれば大学まで授業料の支払い免除で医療費は無料です。

日本で子供の出生率が下がるのは当然のことです。

ドアロック。 Door lock.

　先日の強風でストックルームのドアが閉まり内側からロックされてしまいました。

ドアを開けるのに大変な思いをしました。

それに懲りてロックする可能性のあるドアの錠前を３箇所付け替えました。

鍵はドアノブに結束バンドで固定しました。

いやあ、ドアを開けるのは本当に大変だったんです。

ドアが開くまで３時間かかりました。

　シャワールームの錠は鍵無しです。

錠がロックしても鍵穴を回せば解錠できます。

こういう錠もあるんですね。

It was a struggle to get the door open.
Having learned my lesson, I replaced the locks on three doors that might lock.
I secured the key to the doorknob with a cable tie.
Wow, it was really hard to open the door.
It took me three hours to finally get it open.

 The shower room lock is keyless.
Even if the lock is locked, you can unlock it by turning the keyhole.
I didn't know there were locks like this.

歯医者さん。 Dentist.

　４月に桜を見に日本へ行きその時に歯の治療をしました。

抜歯が必要と言われて７月に予約しました。

７月に予約した歯医者に行くと　心臓は大丈夫か　合併症は無いかと　と質問され抜歯されませんでした。

抜歯のために日本へ行ったので納得できない歯医者の処置でした。

ここは親子２代で歯医者をしています。

その歯医者を選んだのは自分自身なので歯医者に文句は言いませんでした。

ただ約束を守らない歯医者に対して寂しい気持ちになりました。

そしてこの歯医者を利用するのをやめました。

 I went to Japan in April to see the cherry blossoms and had dental treatment there.

I was told that I needed a tooth extracted, so I made an appointment for July.

When I went to the dentist, I had made an appointment in July, and they asked me if my heart was okay and if there were any complications, but they didn't extract the tooth.

I was not happy with the dentist's treatment, as I had gone to Japan for a scheduled tooth extraction.

This dentist has been in business for two generations.

I was the one who chose this dentist, so I didn't complain to him.

However, I felt sad that the dentist didn't keep his promises.

So I stopped using this dentist.

　こちらのBQモールの中にある歯医者に今通っています。

そこで歯の掃除をした次の日に知覚過敏の処置をしてもらいました。

その翌日に言葉では誤解が生じるので文章をもって相談しました。

 I'm currently going to the dentist in the BQ Mall.
I had my teeth cleaned there, and the day after, I received treatment for sensitive teeth.
The next day, I consulted in writing because words can lead to misunderstandings.

　ものを食べると歯に挟まります。

糸で掃除できない箇所が１箇所あります。

その場所を充填できないでしょうか。

という内容の文書です。

　歯医者と話し合った結果当該箇所の冠歯を作り直すことにしました。

歯医者とそれが終わったら日本で抜歯できなかった歯の治療をすることを決めました。

　冠歯はいずれも２、３０年前にしたものです。

この機会にやり直すべきだと決めました。

健康保険証がないので自費治療になります。

嫌いな飛行機に乗って日本へ行きホテルに泊まり不便な思いをすることを事を考えると住まいから治療に通えるのはありがたいことです。

　今までに抜いた歯は２本だけです。

残った自分の歯を大切に使ってゆきたいとおもっています。

　１０年以上前にセブの日本企業担当の歯医者でありがたくない思いをしています。

歯の治療の結果は後日報告します。

 When I eat, food gets stuck in my teeth.

There is one spot that cannot be cleaned with floss.

Is it possible to fill that spot?

This is what the letter said.

After talking with my dentist, we decided to have a crown made in that spot.

Once that is done, I have also decided with the dentist to treat the teeth that could not be extracted in Japan.

All of the crowns were made 20 or 30 years ago.

I decided that this was the opportunity to redo them.

As I do not have health insurance, the treatment will be at my own expense.

Considering the inconvenience of getting on a plane to Japan, which I hate, and staying in a hotel, I am grateful to be able to receive treatment from home.

I have only had two teeth extracted so far.

I would like to cherish the remaining teeth.

I had an ungrateful experience with a dentist working for a Japanese company in Cebu over 10 years ago.

I will report on the results of my dental treatment at a later date.

それにあわせてハミングしながら私の歯型をとりました。
