　ここしばらく首筋が強張って困っていました。

先日ベッドメイクをした時にパイプ枕にパイプを足したことを思い出しました。

パイプ枕のパイプを減らしたところ首の強張りは治り寝やすくなりました。

体が周囲からの影響を受けやすくなりました。

ベッドパッドの乾燥は毎日のルーチンに組み込まれました。

 I've been suffering from a stiff neck for a while now.
The other day, when I was making my bed, I remembered that I had added a pipe to my pipe pillow.
When I reduced the amount of pipe in the pipe pillow, the stiffness in my neck went away, and it became easier to sleep.
My body has become more susceptible to influences from my surroundings.
Drying my bed pad has now become a part of my daily routine.

スルメが食べたくなりました。I suddenly had a craving for dried squid.

　スルメが食べたくなりました。

今住んでいる島では売っていません。

モールの魚の干物売り場に小さなイカの干物がありました。

日本酒をつけて焼いてみました。

醤油とマヨネーズで食べました。

味と硬さがいけません。

　塩イカを焼くときに水で塩抜きをします。

イカの身が水を吸って柔らかく厚くなります。

次回はこの方法を試してみます。

　長い間タイに行っていません。

タイには３回行きました。

プーケットに行ったときにはいつも現地に１週間泊まって帰りはスクンビットで２泊しました。

バンコクの伊勢丹にはりっぱなスルメがあったのでボホールに持ち帰り楽しみました。

　最近出不精になりました。

ドゥマゲッティにもリロアンにもモアルボアルにもタイにも台湾にも行っていません。

大きな理由はコロナ禍で被った膝の不調です。

年齢も障害になっています。

歳を重ねると穏やかな性格になると思っていましたが自分自身が呆れるくらい我儘になりました。

　もともと嫌いな飛行機には乗りたくないので搭乗時間は最短にしています。

パングラオ国際空港から乗るとマニラで乗り換えがあり待ち時間と搭乗時間が増えるのでいつも最短のセブ・マクタン空港を利用しています。

　スルメから話がとびすぎました。

身が厚く柔らかくなったスルメの話は後日報告します。

ここまで書いて最近イカの一夜干しを作っていないことに気が付きました。

貧弱な干しイカに拘るより身の厚い大きな一夜干しのほうが美味しいんじゃないの・・・　

 I suddenly had a craving for dried squid.

They don't sell it on the island where I live now.

I found some small dried squid in the dried fish section of the mall.

I tried grilling it with sake.

I ate it with soy sauce and mayonnaise.

The taste and firmness are completely different.

 When grilling salted squid, I soak it in water to remove the salt.

The squid meat absorbs the water and becomes softer and thicker.

I'll try this method next time.

 I haven't been to Thailand in a long time.

I've been there three times.

Whenever I went to Phuket, I always stayed there for a week and then spent two nights in Sukhumvit on the way back.

Isetan in Bangkok had some great dried squid, so I brought some back to Bohol and enjoyed it.

I've been feeling a bit reclusive lately.

I haven't been to Dumaguete, Liloan, Moalboal, Thailand, or Taiwan.

The main reason is knee problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

My age is also a hindrance. I thought I would become a calmer person as I got older, but I've become so selfish that it's shocking to myself.

 I don't like flying, so I try to get the shortest flight possible.

If I board from Panglao International Airport, I have to change planes in Manila, which increases my waiting and boarding time.

 Therefore, I always use the shortest airport, Cebu Mactan.

 I've jumped too far from the topic of dried squid.

Having written this much, I realized that I haven't made overnight dried squid in a while.

Wouldn't thick, large, overnight dried squid be more delicious than sticking to flimsy dried squid...

パリパリに乾いた洗濯物を取り込んでから洗濯物を干しました。

とっても幸せでした。

　鼻がムズムズするのでパイプ枕を洗って干しました。

枕のせいではないと思いましたが清潔を優先しました。

 横になって枕に頭をのせるといつもより涼しい気がしました。

多分気のせいでしょう。

羽毛の枕からパイプの枕に変えて４０年経ちました。

アレルギー体質は面倒です。

問題はないようです。

 I was worried because I had been drinking alcohol, so I checked my blood pressure.
There was no problem.
I went into the next room to get my camera.

That has increased my heart rate.

絵画のない住まいなので絵になるものは大歓迎です。

As there are no paintings in this home, anything picturesque is very welcome.

I liken the aluminium window frame to a picture frame.

I am mesmerised by the vivid, fresh green of the ivy.

思考に柔軟さがなくなった。 My thinking has become less flexible.

　汗で汚れたマットレスのカバーを洗いました。

マットレスのカバーが乾いた後でマットレスを中に入れるのが大変でした。

　今迄マットレスが汗で濡れると乾かすという対処をしてきました。

汗で汚れたマットレスを洗って清潔さを保つ根本的な対策が出来ませんでした。

マットレスをもう一つ用意して交互に使えばいつも乾燥したマットレスを使えます。

思考に柔軟性がなくなったなあ　と嘆きました。

思考の硬直は老化の始まりですね。

蔭の声：あんたは老化したれっきとした老人です。

 I washed the sweat-stained mattress cover.

It was difficult to put the mattress back inside once the cover had dried.

 Until now, I'd just let the mattress dry when it got sweaty.

I hadn't taken the fundamental step of washing the mattress and keeping it clean.

If I get another mattress and alternate using them, I can always have a dry one.

I lamented how inflexible my thinking had become.

Rigidity of thought is the beginning of ageing.

水道水。 Tap water.

 

　喜ぶべきことです。

水道水の給水時間が一日２回に増えました。

今迄は給水は一日１回夜の１０時過ぎに始りました。

今はそれに加えて昼過ぎから受水槽に水が入ってくるようになりました。

図は１０００ℓのタンクに水が5/4入っています。

給水されているのでまもなくタンクは満タンになるでしょう。

　おおよそ一人世帯の水道使用量は５５０ℓ/１日とされています。

１０００ℓのタンクがあれば１日充分に水は使えます。

シャワーを浴びる回数が多いので水道使用料は推定一日７００ℓ位でしょうか。

洗濯は色別に分けてすすぎを３回して楽しんでいます。

　今まで困ったのは市全体が夜間停電になった時でした。

水道局の給水ポンプが動かないので水道水が翌日の夜間まで受水槽に入ってきませんでした。

今後は停電になっても夜間・昼間に水道水の給水を受けられるので安心です。

 This is something to be happy about!

Considering my frequent showers, I estimate that my daily water usage hovers around an impressive 700 litres.

With a 1,000-litre tank, we have enough water for the day.

 The only problem we've had until now is when the entire city had a power cut at night.

The waterworks department's water supply pump wouldn't work, meaning water wouldn't reach the tank until the following night.

From now on, even if there's a power cut, we'll be able to get water at night and during the day, which will give us peace of mind.

マーフィーの法則。 Murphy's Law.

 

　※マーフィーの法則の起源:

マーフィーの法則は、アメリカの航空工学者エドワード・アロイシャス・マーフィー・ジュニアの研究をきっかけに生まれたとされています。彼の研究室で起きた出来事や、同僚たちの経験談が、ユーモラスな形で広まったのが始まりです。

　体重が減ってから２年半増えないのでウエットスーツを新調しました。

スラックスがずり落ちるので73ｃｍのスラックスを４本新調しました。

　その３か月後に基礎体温が上がり体重が５ｋｇ増えました。

ウエットスーツはあたかく快適ですが着脱が大変になりました。

ウエットスーツの中に水が入ってこないので首の部分を緩めて海水を中に入れています。

　スラックスのウエストがきつくなりました。

穿けないことは事はありませんが穿くとウエストにスラックスの跡が付きます。

　寝るときに夏掛け布団を使う必要がなくなりました。

シーツ１枚あれば十分です。

夏掛け布団を干す台を作りましたが不要になりました。

　基礎体温が上がったのは大変ありがたい事です。

汗を前よりかくようになり洗濯物が増えました。

　あと５kg増えれば前の体重６５kgにもどります。

６５ｋｇの時に着ていた上下セパレートのウエットスーツが２つあります。

着られるようになるかもしれません。

こんな事を言っているとマーフィーの法則で体重が減るかもしれません。

高望みは禁物です。

 I lost weight but couldn't gain it back for two and a half years.

So I had a new wetsuit made.

My trousers kept slipping down, so I bought four new pairs of 73 cm trousers.

 Three months later, my basal body temperature increased, and I gained 5 kg.

The wetsuit is warm and comfortable, but it becomes difficult to put on and take off.

Since water doesn't get into my wetsuit, I loosen the neck and let seawater in.

The waist of my trousers has become tight.

I can still wear them, but they leave a mark on my waist when I do.

I no longer need a summer duvet when I sleep.

One sheet is enough.

I made a drying rack for my summer duvet, but I no longer need it.

I'm grateful that my basal body temperature has risen.

I'm sweating more than before, so I have more laundry to do.

If I gain another 5 kg, I'll be back to my previous weight of 65 kg.

I still have two wetsuits that I wore when I weighed 65 kg.

I can wear them again.

If I keep thinking like this, Murphy's Law might cause me to lose weight!

Don't get my hopes up.

Please god, don't let it happen again.

調べてみるとパラワン山猫でした。

フィリピンのパラワン島とネグロス島の固有種のようです。

 A wildcat is featured on the 50-peso banknote of the Philippines.

I looked it up and discovered that it is a Palawan wildcat.

It appears to be endemic to the Philippine islands of Palawan and Negros

観光地ではない場所にあるホテル。 It's a hotel in a non-touristy area.

　私の住んでいる近所にはさして見るべきものがありません。

海辺ですが砂浜がなく岸辺は木が茂っています。

　私の住んでいる近くにホテルがあります。

客の出入りを散歩の途中に見た事がありません。

そのホテルの名前が変わりました。

新しい名前はCamp Pihakです。

観光地ではない静かな漁村にあるホテルです。

There's nothing particularly worth seeing in my neighbourhood.

It's by the sea, but there's no sandy beach, and the shoreline is covered in trees.

 There's a hotel near where I live.

I've never seen any guests coming or going when I've been walking past.

The hotel has a new name.

The new name is Camp Pihak.

It is located in a quiet fishing village outside the tourist area.

念を入れて４時ころまで扇風機を回します。

I want to sleep on a dry sheet, so I'm using a fan oscillation to dry the two mats.

The mat I took off in the afternoon dries.

I'll be carefully running the fan until around 4 o'clock.

雀のエサ取り合戦。Sparrow's food gathering battle.

　私がパンくずを庭に撒くと雀達はそれをついばんでいました。

最近雀はパンくずをくちばしにくわえてどこかに飛んでゆくようになりました。

どうやら巣に持ち込んで食べているようです。

そのような訳で庭のパンくずは姿を消すのが早くなりました。

　私が室内にいると雀がベランダに入ってくるようになりました。

雀は植木にとまったり植木鉢をのぞき込んだりしています。

雀の動作はかわいいですね。

 When I used to scatter breadcrumbs in the garden, the sparrows would peck at them.

Recently, however, they have started flying away with breadcrumbs in their beaks.

It seems they are taking them back to their nests to eat.

Because of this, the breadcrumbs in the garden are disappearing faster than usual.

 When I'm inside, the sparrows have started coming onto the veranda.

They land on the plants or peer into the flower pots.

They are so cute to watch.

微笑ましい。It was a heartwarming sight.

新人さんの目は真剣です。
ベテランが隣で彼女が清算した品物を袋に詰めながらアドバイスしていました。
新人さんはその都度アドバイスに声を出して返事をしていました。
彼女の真摯な態度を見て物事に真剣に取り組む大切さを教えられました。
がんばれ、新人・・

 Today's cashier was a young, new employee. 

The new employee had a serious look in her eyes. 

A veteran was standing next to her, giving her advice as she packed the checked items into bags. 

The new employee responded out loud to each piece of advice.

 Seeing her sincere attitude taught me the importance of taking things seriously.

困った木工家さん。 The master carpenter appears to be sulking.

　木工家の主人が臍を曲げました。

下の写真の机を作ってもらった時は機嫌が良かったんです。

上の写真の小机が出来あがった時に図面と違っていいたので図面を見せて手直しをしてもらいました。

その事が彼の気にいらなかったようです。

小机の支払時にばか高い料金を請求されました。

小机は下の写真の大きな机に比べると長さも高さも1/3です。

　椅子のクッションの修理を頼みましたが椅子を取りに来てくれません。

全く困ったものです。

今新しい木工家を探しています。

 He was in a good mood when he made the desk pictured below. 

However, when he had finished making the small desk in the photo above, it differed from the drawings. 

I showed him the drawings and asked him to make adjustments. 

This seemed to bother him. 

When it came to paying for the small desk, he charged me a high fee. 

The small desk is one-third the length and height of the large desk in the photo below. 

 I asked him to repair the chair cushions, but he hasn't collected the chairs yet.

 It's really troublesome. 

I am currently looking for a new woodworker.

コーヒーの出し殻。Coffee grounds.

　コーヒーの出し殻を植木鉢に入れています。

　私の拳よりも一回り小さいカエル達が植木鉢の土を掻き出しあちこちの植木鉢に居座るので困っていました。

彼らの上にコーヒーの出し殻を撒いたところ彼らは鉢から飛び出し鉢に寄らなくなりました。

出し殻の思わぬ効果に喜んでいます。

　出し殻が植木に観葉植物に悪影響を与えないか心配していましたが今のところ悪影響はありません。

鉢の土に有機物をたしているんだ　と勝手に都合のいい解釈をしています。

　短い期間の経過報告です。

また変化が起きたら報告します。

 I put coffee grounds in the flower pots because I was troubled by the frogs, which were about the size of my fist, digging up the soil and settling in them. 

 I sprinkled coffee grounds over the pots, and the frogs jumped out and stopped coming near them. 

I am pleased with this unexpected result. 

I was concerned that the coffee grounds might hurt my plants, but so far, there have been no adverse effects. 

I interpret this as adding organic matter to the soil in the pots. 

This is a short-term progress report. 

I will report again if there are any changes.

　右側の小型の電波時計は１７年間使い続けたので裏ブタが外れ液晶が少し見にくくなってきました。

本体の性能に異常はないので電波時計として使っています。

仕事をしているわけではないので正確な時間は必要ないんですがこれも性格と諦めています。

新しい約２倍の大きさの電波時計を現地時間表示にして使い始めました。

表示の字が大きく液晶が明るく見やすいですね。

木製の枠がついているだけで随分時計の見た目が変わるもんだなあ　と感心しています。

　買い物に行ったモールでコンテストをしていた。

出場者は体中に彫り物をしていた。

魏志倭人伝の　男子は大小となく、皆、黥面文身す　を思い出しました。

 There was a contest at the mall where I went shopping.

The contestants had tattoos all over their bodies.

It reminded me of the passage in the Wei Zhi Wajinden that says that all the men, big and small, had tattoos on their faces.

すぐそばにフィットネスのジムが出来た。A new fitness gym has opened nearby.

　住まいから歩いて２分くらいのところにアルファという名のフィットネスセンターが出来ました。

職員の方に断ってジムの中を見せてもらいました。

トレーニングの機器はまだ全てそろっていないそうです。

この日は子供たちへのジムの公開日だったようです。

４つのエアコンがうなりをあげていました。

室内の温度は快適でした。

　住まいのそばというのは魅力ですね。

土日・祝祭日を避けて午前中に使ってみようかなあ　と思っています。

 A fitness center called Alpha has opened about a two-minute walk from where I live.

I was able to get a look inside the gym with the staff's permission.

They said that not all of the training equipment is installed yet.

It seems that the day I visited was the gym's open day for children.

Four air conditioners were humming away.

The temperature inside was comfortable.

 Having a gym nearby is a convenient and attractive feature.

I'm thinking of using it mid-morning, avoiding weekends and public holidays.
