　今日で歯の治療は終わりました。

良い歯医者さんに会えて助かりました。

歯の定期点検と毎日の歯磨きで今まで酷使してきた歯を守ってゆきます。

新しい歯にまだ慣れていないので違和感があります。

時間がたてば慣れるでしょう。

　義歯のない反対側の奥歯で食べ物を噛む癖がついてしまいました。

悪い癖はすぐになおさないといけません。

I need to break this bad habit immediately.

シューマート。Shoe Mart.

　シューマートの工事が始まりました。

建設用地の木は刈られて土地は平らにならされていました。

いつ頃出来上がるんでしょうか。

建設の許可証の表示がないのでわかりません。

　ベッドカバーを代えました。

部屋の雰囲気が明るく変わりました。

カラマリは衣が焦げてガリガリでイカは固くなっていました。

パスタは茹ですぎでトマトソースの代わりにケチャップを使っていました。

作ってもらったものなので全部食べようとしましたがニンニク臭く半分しか食べられませんでした。

店が悪い方へ変わってゆくのは淋しいですね。

 Frankie's is a restaurant with good appetizers and food.
It's a restaurant I'd been planning to come to once I'd recovered and was able to drink alcohol again.
The chef has changed.
The calamari was burnt and crunchy, and the squid was tough.
The pasta was overcooked, and ketchup was used instead of tomato sauce.
I tried to eat it all since it was made for me, but it smelled like garlic, so I could only eat half.
It's sad to see a restaurant go downhill.

伊丹さん、それは違う。 Mr. Itami, that's not true.

　俳優で映画監督で本も書かれた故伊丹十三さんは多彩な方でした。

その方の　女たちよ　という本の中に焼酎のお湯割りを飲むと　少年の日の目覚め　が得られると書いてありました。

私はそれを読んで　少年の日の目覚め　を得ようといろいろな種類の焼酎のお湯割りを飲みました。

焼酎のお湯割りはおいしいですね。

残念なことに焼酎のお湯割りで少年の日の目覚めを体験できませんでした。

　禁酒期間が３ヶ月をこえました。

酒をやめた最初の頃は気分が悪く頭もスッキリせず寝付きが悪く夜中に何度も目を覚ましました。

一月経つと少し気持ちが落ち着き体も少し楽になりました。

２ヶ月経ったあたりから気分も体調も上向きになりました。

夜になると眠くなり寝付きが良く夜中に目を覚ますこともなく朝まで眠れるようになりました。

睡眠時間はその日によって違いますが大体８時間前後眠ると目が覚めます。

７時間半より少ないことはありません。

起きてから二度寝をする気にはなりません。

目が覚めたら伸びをしてすぐベッドを出ます。

寝起きは清々しい気持ちです。

歳月が経っているので自分の　少年の日の目覚め　を覚えていません。

　酒を飲んでいたときは前夜使った食器を洗わずに寝ていましたが今は使った食器は食後に洗うようになりました。

朝起きても流し台に汚れ物はありません。

朝起きると腹が減っているので果物とヨーグルトを食べてからベッドをばらして着ていたものとシーツ・枕カバーを洗濯機に入れます。

それからシャワーを浴びます。

　酒をやめて２ヶ月を過ぎてからここに書くのが恥ずかしくらい健康的な生活を送っています。

飲酒欲求は酒をやめて３ヶ月経っても起ります。

その時は冷えた水や炭酸・麦茶を何杯か飲むと飲酒欲求は退いてゆきます。

腹が減っていると酒を飲みたくなるので食事は欠かせません。

　私は飲酒が原因で心房細動になりました。

心房細動で出来る血栓を防ぐために薬を飲んでいます。

いまは飲む薬も減り２種類になりました。

血栓が出来ないようにする抗血液凝固剤と肝臓が脂肪を作るのを妨害する薬です。

２月と３月に心臓の再検査を行います。

良くなっているといいんですが飲酒で長い間痛めつけた心臓がそう簡単に回復するとも思えません。

自分の食べる料理に精を出します。

 
 The late actor, film director, and author Itami Juzo was highly versatile.
In his book Women, he wrote that drinking shochu diluted with hot water can make you wake up the next morning refreshed, as you were when you were a boy.
I read that and tried to achieve it by drinking various shochu, diluted with hot water.
Shochu diluted with hot water is good.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to experience that with shochu diluted with hot water.

 I've been sober for over three months.
Initially, I felt restless, my mind was not clear, and I had difficulty falling asleep, waking up multiple times during the night.
After a month, I felt somewhat calmer, and my body felt slightly better.
After about two months, my mood and physical condition started to improve.
I felt sleepy at night; I fell asleep more easily and slept through the night without waking.

The amount of sleep I get varies from day to day, but I usually wake up after about 8 hours.
I never get less than 7.5 hours.
I don't feel like going back to sleep after waking up.
When I wake up, I stretch and get out of bed immediately.
I wake up feeling refreshed.
So much time has passed that I can't remember the refreshing feeling of waking up as a boy.

When I was drinking, I would go to bed without washing the dishes I used the night before, but now I wash them after eating.
When I wake up in the morning, there are no dirty dishes in the sink.
When I wake up in the morning, I'm hungry, so I eat some fruit and yogurt, then hang out the mattress on my bed and put the clothes I was wearing, as well as the sheets and pillowcases, in the washing machine.
Then I take a shower.

It's been over two months since I quit drinking, and I'm living such a healthy life that I feel embarrassed to write about it here.
I still have the urge to drink, even three months after quitting alcohol.
When that happens, drinking a few glasses of cold water, soda, or barley tea helps to subdue the urge.
When I'm hungry, I feel like drinking alcohol, so meals are essential.

I developed atrial fibrillation as a result of drinking alcohol.
I take medication to prevent blood clots caused by atrial fibrillation.
I've now reduced the number of medications I take to just two.
An anticoagulant to prevent blood clots from forming, and a drug that prevents the liver from producing fat.
I'll have my heart reexamined in February and March.
I hope I'm getting better, but I don't think a heart that's been damaged by drinking for so long will recover so easily.
I'm going to focus on the food I cook.

運ぶ時に重たいコーラ等はそこで買っています。

　その店の前にベンチが置いてあります。

近所の人・友人・知人がそこに座って話をしています。

女性が買い物がてら数人で立ち話をしています。

サリサリストアは社交の場と情報交換の場所を兼ねていました。

　真空タンブラーってすごいなあ。

氷を入れた冷たい水を作って忘れていました。

料理している途中で思い出して手に取りました。

室温３０℃の中で氷が解けずに残っていました。

作ってから３０分以上経っています。

キンキンに冷えた水を飲みました。

　酒は止めていますがこれで焼酎のロックを飲んだら旨いだろうなあと思いました。

煙草は止めて３０年以上経つので吸いたいとは思いません。

また煙草の事を思い出したりしません。

酒は６０年間飲みすぎだなあと思いながら飲み続けました。

ビールの小瓶を３本飲んでからウイスキソーダボトルの1/4位飲むと眠くなりました。

真夜中に喉が渇いて目が覚めるので用意した冷えた水を飲んで眠なおすパターンでした。

血圧や肝臓の値には気を配っていましたが心臓の不整脈・心房細動は全く気にかけていませんでした。

酒はいまでも飲みたいですね。

飲みたくて仕方のない時には冷たい炭酸水を何杯も飲んでやり過ごしています。

どのくらい経ったら煙草と同じようになるんでしょうね。

I still want to drink alcohol.

 When I really want to drink, I get by by drinking several glasses of cold carbonated water.
I wonder how long it will take for alcohol to become like cigarettes.

爆竹はうるさい。 Firecrackers are noisy.

 　おはようございます。

今朝は７時半に目が覚めました。

昨夜は穏やかに８時に眠りにつきました。

夜中の１２時前から爆竹と花火のうるさい音に酔っぱらいの声が混じり３時ごろまで眠れませんでした。

彼等の新年のお祭りに付き合わされました。

彼らにとって新年は華僑の影響もあってお祭りなんですね。

　クリスマスは彼らにとってキリスト教の大切な儀式ですから騒ぐことはありません。

教会に行き家族と家で食事をしてゆったりと寛ぎます。

　日本のクリスマスイブもお祭りでに教会に行かずケーキを食べて酒を飲みます。

新年は昨年の穢れを清め一年の平穏を祈願します。

日本は仏教と神道と農業の行事が混然と一体になっています。

彼岸の墓参りはそのいい例ですね。

 Good morning.
I woke up at 7:30 this morning.
I fell asleep peacefully at eight last night.
The loud noise of firecrackers and fireworks, mixed with the voices of drunk people, started before midnight and kept me up until around 3 am.
I was forced to join in their New Year's festival.
For them, the New Year is a festival, partly due to the influence of overseas Chinese.

Christmas is an essential Christian ritual for them, so there is no fuss.
They go to church, have a home meal with their family, and relax.

Christmas Eve in Japan is also a festival, so people don't go to church, but instead eat cake and drink alcohol.
The New Year is a time to cleanse oneself of the impurities of the past year and pray for peace in the coming year.
In Japan, Buddhism, Shinto, and agricultural rituals are intertwined.
Visiting graves during the equinoxes is a good example of this.

　ざるを洗いながら思いました。

このざるは日本で１５年以上使っているね。

こちらに来てから１８年経ったね。

無印は長持ちするね。

家の中にあるもので何が一番古いのか気になりました。

I've been using this colander in Japan for over 15 years.
It's been 18 years since I moved here.
MUJI products last a long time.
I thought about what the oldest item in my house is.

 This set of plates was a wedding favor for my friend.
I've been using it for 55 years.

　このスプーンは私の生後まもなく使いだしたものです。

食卓に私だけ家族と違うスプーンがでてくるので母に聞きました。

 I started using this spoon shortly after I was born.
I was the only one at the dinner table with a different spoon than the rest of the family, so I asked my mother.

"If you don't like it, I can change it."

I've been using it for an estimated 79 years.

　水浴びに行く人達に聞こえるようにクリスマスソングを流しています。

既成の曲を変にアレンジしている曲は聞きにくいですね。

 I play Christmas songs through the speakers so people taking a bath in the sea can hear them.
I find it hard to listen to songs that are strange arrangements of existing songs.
Reiconniff and Joni James are authentic and easy to listen to.

天気の移り変わりの速さにはついてゆけません。 It's hard to keep up with how quickly the weather changes.

　出かけようとすると空が暗くなり雨が降り出しました。

暫くすると雨は本降りになりました。

１時間もたたないうちに雨は上がり陽がさんさんと照りました。

　薬局に行って来月半ばまでの薬を買いました。

近所の小さい子にドーナツを配りました。

ここの役場には毎年出生証明書でお世話になっています。

その役場に小学校にノートと筆記用具を送る相談をしたら役場名義で送ってくれました。

これで今年の贈り物は全て終わりました。

It's hard to keep up with how quickly the weather changes.

 I went to the pharmacy and bought medication that will last until the middle of next month.

I handed out doughnuts to young children in the neighborhood.

I receive birth certificates from the local town hall every year.

I asked the town hall about sending notebooks and writing supplies to the elementary school, and they sent them in the town hall's name.

That completes all the gifts for this year.

裁縫。Sewing.

　母の裁縫箱から道具をかりてボタン付けをしました。

母が私に２、３本針に糸をとおしておいてね　と言った意味がよく分かるようになりました。

針に糸をとおすのは大変です。

きちんと整理された裁縫箱です。

借りたものはきちんと元の位置におさめました。

 I borrowed a needle and thread from my mother's sewing box to sew on a button.
I now understand why my mother asked me to thread two or three needles.
Threading needles is hard work.
This sewing box is neatly organized.
I put everything I borrowed back in its original place.
