私はその時が来るのを待ちます。 I wait for that moment to arrive.

 

　庭に来る雀が植木鉢の水受けに溜まった水を飲んだ後で水浴びをしました。

雀が盛大に水浴びするのを見たくて植木鉢の水受けの前に水を張った鉢を置きました。

雀は野生なので新しものは警戒して近づいてこないことを忘れていました。

あとどのくらいの時間が経ったら雀の盛大な水浴びが見られるのでしょうか。

　山をおりて歩いていると雀が現れます。

そのあと少し歩くと始発のバス停があらわれます。

山奥のバスの本数は少ないのでバスを待たずに歩いたほうが早い場合もあります。

雀を見ていてそんな事を思い出しました。

 The sparrows that came to the garden drank the water collected in the saucer of a flowerpot, and then took a bath.
I placed a bowl of water in front of the flowerpot's saucer because I wanted to see the sparrows take a big bath, splashing around.
I had forgotten that wild sparrows are wary of new things and won't approach them.
How much longer will it take before I can see the sparrows take a big bath?

 As I walk down the mountain, sparrows appear.
A little further on, I come across the first bus stop.
There are few buses in the mountains, so sometimes it's faster to walk than to wait for the bus.
Watching the sparrows reminded me of that.

　私がパンくずを庭に撒くと雀達はそれをついばんでいました。

最近雀はパンくずをくちばしにくわえてどこかに飛んでゆくようになりました。

どうやら巣に持ち込んで食べているようです。

そのような訳で庭のパンくずは姿を消すのが早くなりました。

　私が室内にいると雀がベランダに入ってくるようになりました。

雀は植木にとまったり植木鉢をのぞき込んだりしています。

雀の動作はかわいいですね。

 When I used to scatter breadcrumbs in the garden, the sparrows would peck at them.

Recently, however, they have started flying away with breadcrumbs in their beaks.

It seems they are taking them back to their nests to eat.

Because of this, the breadcrumbs in the garden are disappearing faster than usual.

 When I'm inside, the sparrows have started coming onto the veranda.

They land on the plants or peer into the flower pots.

They are so cute to watch.

ここの雀は警戒心が強い。 The sparrows here are very wary.

　朝食の残りのパンをちぎって芝の上に撒きました。

こちらの雀は警戒心が強く人がいると寄ってきません。

雀はどこかで人間の行動を見ているようです。

偵察の雀が来た後に時間がたつと雀の群れがやってきます。

今は雀の群れの中に巣立った色のさえない小雀が混じっています。

　私が部屋の中からガラス越しに雀を見ているのは彼らの安全距離のようです。

洗濯物を干しに歩いてゆくと群れは飛び立ちます。

I tore the leftover bread from breakfast and scattered it on the grass.

The sparrows here are very cautious and do not come close when there are people around.

It seems that the sparrows are watching human behavior from somewhere.

After a scout sparrow comes, the flock of sparrows arrives after some time.

Right now, there are some dull-colored fledglings mixed in with the flock of sparrows.

It seems that watching the sparrows from inside my room through the glass is a safe distance.

When I walk out to hang up laundry, the flock takes flight.

朝告げ鳥 Morning bird.

 

　カーテンに白い光が差し始めるころ鶏よりも先になく鳥がいます。

パーラポーンポーンと明るい声でしばらく鳴き続けます。

知らない鳥が鳴き続けている間に鶏がお義理のように鳴きます。

こちらの鶏は昼間の変な時間や夜に鳴くので朝告げ鳥（ときつげどり）ではありません。

パーラポーンポーンと明るい声で鳴く鳥の姿を見たいんですが見たことがありません。

羽根の色も姿かたちも不明です。

　小夜なき鳥のナイチンゲールはとてもきれいな声で鳴くそうです。

鳴き声を聞きたいんですがここに住んでいないのが残念です。

西洋鶯の別名があるので寒冷な気候を好むのでしょうね。

There is a bird that sings before the chickens when the white light begins to shine on the curtains.

It keeps clucking for a while in a bright voice, parlapompom parlapompom.

While the unknown bird continues singing, the chicken crows obligingly.

The nightingale, a bird that sings at night, is said to have a beautiful voice.

I'd love to hear it, but unfortunately, it doesn't live here.

It's also known as the West nightingale and prefers cold climates.
