This reminded me of Midori Tashiro's "Pineapple Princess."

Here's a simple way to cut a Princess Pineapple:
Cut off the leaves and the top and bottom of the pineapple.
Cut the tubular pineapple in half lengthwise.
Cut the halves in half again.
The core is soft and can be eaten as is.
Juice dripped from the knife.
It's sweet.
It's a sweetness with little acidity.

They were selling small princess pineapples.

They were selling small princess pineapples.
When I asked if they could show me an easy way to cut them, they demonstrated.
They cut off the pineapple leaves, cut the top and bottom of the fruit, and then cut it lengthwise, giving me some wedge-shaped pieces to eat.
The fruit was sweet, and the core was soft; it was good.
When I bought four, they told me to eat them while walking and put three in my palm.
Ubuhan is a pleasant place to live.

Please refrain from reading this if you are about to eat or have just eaten.

I looked at the number one result I had produced and thought, "That can't be right."
It was a beautiful pale pink color.
My ALT level was 16 in my recent blood test.

 I thought about it carefully.
Something came to mind.
I had eaten half a red dragon fruit in the morning and half in the evening the day before.
This is due to the fruit's natural pigment, which fades over time.
This is the second time this has happened.
It's a troublesome fruit.

It's all about local food production and consumption, isn't it?

There were mangosteens lined up in the fruit section.
Of course, I bought some.

Oranges and apples that aren't grown locally were prominently displayed.
I thought, "Let's eat the fresh fruit that's a bounty of this land."
Let's support local production and consumption.

Mangosteens are covered in a hard shell.
The hard shell can be easily cracked by pressing the stem with your finger.
The red pigment in the shell will stain white clothing and is difficult to remove.

When I popped the white flesh of the mangosteen into my mouth, a refreshing sweetness spread throughout my mouth.
I scraped off the translucent flesh attached to the seed with my teeth.
And I thought, "This is Local food production and consumption."

Perfectly ripe.

The avocado ripened nicely on the third day.
I let it sit in the refrigerator overnight before eating it.
I still can't judge the quality of an avocado by its appearance.
I ate avocados that I've cut in half, sprinkled with lemon juice and salt.

My doctor has told me to lower my LDL cholesterol.
I have a blood test on the 25th of this month.
Fortunately, my arrhythmia has disappeared.
I want to lower my LDL cholesterol and resume diving.
I haven't eaten a single bite of butter.
I used to love eating toast with thick slices of butter.
I've also cut out animal fats.
I have four weeks until the test
.

Avocado instead of butter.

There was a woman shaking avocados in the produce section of the mall.
"I don't know which one to buy," I said.
"Which one should I buy?" I asked.
"This one is good, it'll be ready to eat tomorrow," she told me.

I used to eat toasted bread with about 5mm slices of butter on top.
I was looking for a substitute for butter.
I tried thick slices of avocado, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with salt.
Salt and olive oil go well with toast.

I used to eat two chicken thighs for breakfast.
To reduce the amount I ate, I put half of the chicken thighs into soup.
My strategy is to fill myself up with soup.
I eat fruit and yogurt before meals.
After meals, I'm so full that I don't feel like eating anymore.

I don't know how to tell a good avocado from a bad one.
I think I'll get the hang of it after buying a few and making some mistakes.

The papaya ripening went well.

 The papaya ripening went well.
All the time, I ripened it indoors on a well-ventilated chair.
There were two times when it didn't work.
It seems there was a problem with the papaya I bought.

I let this ripen for three days.

 The papaya ripened successfully.
I eat pomelo and papaya three times a day.
I'm careful about "dental erosion," where the acid in fruit dissolves teeth.
My Engel coefficient for fruit is high.

I should have let it ripen for another day.

 The ripening process went well.
It tastes good.
Next time, I'll leave it outside for another day.

I ate half the papaya, then had fried rice.
I'm full.
I'm satisfied.

 It's 7:30, but I'm getting sleepy.
I'm going to bed earlier and earlier.
Will I be asleep by 8 pm next year?
Would I sleep at that time?

I'm curious about papaya growing on trees.

 I've recently started eating papaya.
There are lots of papaya trees along my walking route.
When I see papayas that have turned slightly yellow while still on the tree, I wonder what a tree-ripened papaya tastes like.

Ver 3. Further ripening. Ver. 3.

Oh, this taste is ripe papaya, really.
This ripening process was a great success.

I bought a large papaya that's starting to turn yellow.
I'm keeping the other pomelo in the refrigerator.

It seems to be ripening.
The fruit's skin has turned yellow.
The yellow skin is still not elastic.
It needs a little more time to be fully ripe.

They were ripe to a beautiful color.
The skin had become nice and firm.
Since I ran out of pomelos, I moved them to the refrigerator.

2. Fruit ripening—version 2.

I ripened the pomelo and papaya in a well-ventilated place.
Last time, I wrapped them in a plastic bag, and the papaya stem got damaged, so this time I didn't cover the fruit at all.
I check the fruit several times a day, hoping it will yellow quickly, but it doesn't cooperate with my convenience.
Should I put them in a well-ventilated basket or something?
It seems wrapping them in newspaper is a good idea.
I don't subscribe to a newspaper, so I don't have any.

One of the papayas became delicious after ripening.
The other papaya went bad.
Ripening is difficult.
Next time, I'll buy papayas that have already yellowed.

Seasonal fruits.

There were lots of mangosteens in the mall's fruit section.
Unlike mangoes and papayas, they're not available year-round.
Mangosteens are a seasonal fruit.

When I break open the thick, dark red rind with my hands, white flesh is revealed.
When I put the flesh in my mouth, widen my tongue, and press it against the roof of my mouth, a refreshing, sweet, and sour juice spreads throughout my mouth.
The lingering sweetness after swallowing the juice is just right, living up to its reputation as the queen of fruits.

Japanese sweetness is refreshing, like that of red bean paste or amazake (sweet sake made from fermented rice).
While in Japan, I enjoyed the pleasant aftertaste of eating kusamochi (rice cakes with mugwort) and sakuramochi (rice cakes with cherry blossoms) and drinking tea.
It's different from the oily sweetness of Western confectionery.

The greengrocer is family-run.

The greengrocer I found recently is family-run.
Everyone takes turns working the store.
They carry better quality products than those at the mall.
When I tell them what I want and how many, they help me choose the best items.

It seemed like elderly Asian customers were rare.
The questions started with the standard, "What nationality are you?"
As I went shopping there many times, the questions progressed to "Is your wife Filipina?", "What do you do for a living?" "How old are you?" "Where do you live?", etc.
Each person asked me something different each time, so I answered the same questions over and over.

The store is about a 15-minute walk away, so I stop by on my walks.
One day, someone asked me, "Where do you live?" and I replied that it was about a 15-minute walk from there.
When they asked me, "Why don't you come by motorbike?" I replied that I didn't have money for gas.
People here use tricycles even for short distances.
Apparently, people think I'm a strange Japanese person who walks to the shops instead of riding a motorbike.
