小さな梯子。 The small ladder.

 

　小さな梯子を踏み台がわりに買いました。

庭に面した出入口は風通しが良いのでベッドパッド等をよく干します。

下の写真の右側にある椅子を使って干していました

先日干している最中に足の形が椅子のクッションについているのが気になりました。

張替えたきれいなクッションを汚してはいけないので踏み台を買った次第です。

小さな梯子はアルミ製で軽く持ち運びも簡単なので重宝しています。

 I bought a small ladder to use as a step stool.
The entrance facing the garden is well-ventilated, so I often hang out bed pads and other items there to dry.
I used to use the chair on the right in the photo below to dry them.

The other day, while drying clothes them, I noticed the imprint of my feet on the chair's cushion.

I didn't want to stain the nicely reupholstered cushion, so I bought a step stool.
The small ladder is made of aluminum, so it's light and easy to carry, making it very useful.

慣れないお裁縫。 I'm unfamiliar with sewing.

 

　こちらの洋服屋さんで作ったショートパンツのウエストの幅広の平ゴムが思ったより早く伸びてしまいました。

ウエストを調節する紐は細めで滑りやすい材質です。

ショートパンツのウエストがずり落ちて気持ちが落ち着きません。

平ゴムを買ってきてショートパンツにゴムひもを通しました。

慣れない作業なので手の指が攣りました。

　ウエストのゴムひもが適度にしまり快適です。

滑りやすい易いひもは外しました。

こちらは暑いので日に何回かシャワーを浴びます。

その都度ショートパンツとTシャツは交換して着ています。

ストレスが一つ減りました。

　タグビララン市ではゴムひもをガーターと呼びます。

ゴムひもを買いたいと言っても相手に通じず時間がかかりました。

 The wide elastic waistband on the shorts I had made at this clothing store stretched out faster than I expected.
The drawstring to adjust the waist is thin and made of a slippery material.
The shorts kept slipping down, which was bothering me.
I bought some elastic and threaded it through the shorts.
It was an unfamiliar task, so my fingers cramped up.

 The elastic drawstring at the waist provides a comfortable, snug fit.
I removed the slippery drawstring.
It's hot here, so I shower several times a day.
I change my shorts and T-shirt each time.
One less thing to hassle with decreased.

 In Tagbilaran, elastic bands are called garters.

Even though I said I wanted to buy an elastic band, the person didn't understand, and it took a long time to buy one.

家事で一番大変な作業。 The most difficult chore in the house.

 

　冷蔵庫は台所の隣の部屋に置いてあります。

こちらに来た１８年前は部屋が手狭だったので小さい冷蔵庫を買いたしました。

この冷蔵庫の霜取りは自動ではありませんでした。

月に１回くらいこの冷蔵庫の霜取りをします。

冷凍室に入っている物を他の冷蔵庫に移して冷凍室を空にします。

冷凍室の扉を開けたままコンセントを抜いて電源を切ります。

冷凍庫についた霜と氷が溶けだすのを淹れたコーヒーを飲みながら待ちます。

庫内の霜と氷が溶けだしたらパン用のプラスチックのスクレーパーで集めて台所の流しに捨てます。

庫内の奥にある排水口の穴からたまった水をながして終了です。

※最初は庫内の霜と氷をとかすのに霜取りを使っていました。

霜取りを使うと霜が解けた段階でスイッチが入り氷がとけません。

コンセントを抜くと冷蔵庫の温度が上がる前に氷が溶け出して作業が楽になりました。

　この旧式な冷蔵庫の霜取り・氷取は正味１時間の作業です。

 The refrigerators are in the room next to the kitchen.
When I moved here 18 years ago, the room was small, so I needed to pick up a small refrigerator.
This refrigerator doesn't have an automatic defrost function.
I defrost this refrigerator about once a month.

Move the contents of the freezer to another refrigerator to empty it.
Leave the freezer door open and unplug it to cut power.
Wait for the frost and ice in the freezer to melt while drinking a cup of coffee.
Once the frost and ice have melted, collect them with a plastic bread scraper and discard them in the kitchen sink.
Flush out the water through the drain hole at the back of the freezer, and I'm done.

 *Initially, I used the refrigerator's defroster to melt the frost and ice inside.
When using the defroster, the switch turns on once the frost has melted, preventing the ice from melting.
Unplugging the refrigerator made the process easier, as the ice began to melt before the temperature inside rose.

 Defrosting and removing ice from this old-fashioned refrigerator takes approximately one hour.

疲れたあ。 Wow, I'm so out of gas.

 

　晴れた暑い日が続いています。

何回も々バケツで水を運びました。

鉢植えの植木にたっぷりと水やりをしました。

洗濯物を干しました。

　蚊にくわれてしまいました。

日中暑い時に蚊は出てきません。

朝や夕方の涼しい時に活動します。

蚊が活動しない真昼の暑い時に植木に水をやると植木が弱るんです。

 It's been sunny and hot for days.
I carried buckets of water over and over again.
I watered the potted plants thoroughly.
I hung out the laundry.

 I got bitten by a mosquito.
Mosquitoes don't come out during the hottest part of the day.
They are active in the cooler mornings and evenings.
Watering plants during the hottest part of the day, when mosquitoes aren't active, weakens the plants.

　こんな卵初めてです。

黄味の周りの濃厚卵白が盛り上がっています。

外側の粘りのない白味・水様卵白がありません。

目玉焼きが丸くなりません。

新鮮な卵をありがとうございます。

　新鮮な卵は茹で卵に向かないんですよ。

熱で卵の身の２酸化炭素が膨らんで殻が剝がれにくくなるんです。

Fried eggs don't stay round.

　ヘルパーさんにこのマットレストップのカバーは汚れているので洗濯しなさい　と言われました。

カバーを外して洗濯しました。

汚れていました、二度洗いしました。

 The room attendant told me the mattress top cover was dirty and I should wash it.
I removed the cover and washed it.
It was dirty, so I washed it twice.

　

　マットレストップを使わずに久しぶりにベッドパッドを使ってベッドメイクしました。

今夜はどんな夢をみるのかなあ・・・

 For the first time in a while, I made the bed using a mattress pad instead of the mattress top.
I wonder what kind of dreams I'll have tonight...

丈夫な山刀を買いました。 I bought a sturdy machete.

 

　こちらは一年中気温が高いです。　

（最低気温２４℃、最高気温３１℃）

魚やイカを捌いた後早く処理しないと腐敗臭が出ます。

　ゴミ収集は週２回です。

時々週１回になります。

生ごみをもっていかない時もあります。

今迄は処理業者にチップを渡していましたが改善しないので今はごみは燃やしています。

　生ごみで果物・野菜の皮やコーヒーの出し殻が燃え残り困っていました。

生ごみに薪をのせて燃やしました。

薪が太いのでうまく着火できませんでした。

丈夫な山刀を買いました。

これで薪を細く割れば焚火の火勢を強くできます。

生ごみの燃え残りも無くなります。

  I was having trouble with non-burnable fruit and vegetable peels and coffee grounds from the food waste.
I tried putting firewood on top of the food waste to burn it.
The firewood was too thick, so it didn't light properly.
I bought a sturdy machete.
With this, I can split the firewood into thinner pieces and make the fire burn more strongly.
It also eliminates the leftover food waste.

　朝漬けた野菜は夕方に取り出して食べます。

夜漬けた野菜は翌朝食べます。

野菜を取り出すたびにそれをかき回しているのでぬかのあぶらで右手の甲の艶がよくなりました。

　バスタオルやタオルケットの乾きが悪いので物干し上部のパイプを増やしました。

３０cmくらい離して２本のパイプを平行にして洗濯物の間に空間を作り乾きやすくしました。

目論見通りに乾きにくい厚手のパイルもパリパリに乾きました。

我が家の洗濯物の乾燥の革命です。

 Because bath towels and towel blankets were taking a long time to dry, I added an extra pipe to the top of the clothesline.
I placed two pipes parallel to each other, about 30 cm apart, to create space for wind to circulate between the laundry, making it easier for the clothes to dry.
As planned, even thick, hard-to-dry terrycloth items dried completely crisp.
This is a revolution in drying laundry in our home!

煮干しの出汁をとりました。 I made dried sardine broth.

 

　煮干しの粉で出汁を倍の濃さで作りました。

出汁をとっているあいだに出てくる灰汁はとりません。

冷めてからコーヒーのフィルターで漉しました。

試しに煮干しの出汁で味噌汁を作りました。

おいしくて２杯飲んでいしまいました。

満足してそうか々と独り言をくりかえしました

私はかつお出汁より煮干し出汁の味噌汁がすきです。

 I made dashi (broth) twice as strong using dried sardine powder.
I didn't remove the scum that rose to the surface while the broth was simmering.
After it cooled, I strained it through a coffee filter.
I tried making miso soup with the dried sardine broth.
It was so good I drank two bowls.
I was so satisfied that I kept muttering to myself, "This is good!"
I prefer miso soup made with dried sardine broth to one made with bonito broth.

毛ばたき。 The feather duster.

 

　毛ばたきの先端がなくなったものをヘルパーさんが捨てました。

拾って机の上の掃除に使っています。

テーブルクロスの上の埃も小さなゴミもきれいに無くなります。

先日赤いのものが無くならないのでよく見たら布についたトマトソースの染みでした。

苦笑いがこみ上げてきました。

 The cleaning helper threw away a feather duster that had lost its tip.
I picked it up and am using it to clean my desk.
It cleans up dust and a small bit of trash on the tablecloth.
The other day, I noticed some red stuff on it that wouldn't go away, so I took a closer look and saw it was a tomato sauce stain on the cloth.
I couldn't help but have a bitter smile.

ヨーグルト。 Yogurt.

　ガラスの容器を傾けてもゲル化した牛乳は流れません。

２４時間で５００ｍｌの牛乳はヨーグルトになりました。

今の季節は最低気温が２３，２４℃で最高気温は２９，３０℃です。

カスピ海ヨーグルトの種はこれで終わりです。

　次回からヨーグルトメーカーを使ってヨーグルトを作ります。

いままでヨーグルトメーカーは温泉卵や納豆作り（うまくいきませんでした）に利用していました。

付属の容器が２つあるので納豆で使わなかった容器で作ります。

納豆菌は生命力の強い菌だそうです。

酒造りの杜氏さん達は納豆を食べないそうです。

そんな強い納豆菌を使っても納豆を作れませんでした。

大豆を無駄にしました。

　気温が３０℃を越えない日は部屋の風通しの良い場所に糠漬けを置いています。

冷蔵庫から糠漬けを出した時は一日にぬか床を２回かき回します。

酸味がおいしくなりました。

　こちらの人はにおいに敏感です。

右手の爪を切ってもらう時にぬかの匂いを感じるようです。

　糠漬けをかき回した右手を石鹸で洗ってからにおいをかいでみました。

左手と右手はにおいが違いました。

右手の爪の間の糠をブラシで落とすとにおいは消えました。

My left hand and right hand smelled different.
I brushed the bran from under the nails on my right hand, and the smell disappeared.

ちゃんとご飯食べているの。 Are you eating correctly?

　"ちゃんとご飯食べているの。"という質問をいただいたのでお答えします。

前から禁酒をしていましたが”酒の練習”と称して週に一度飲んでいました。

今は完全に禁酒しているので３ヶ月間酒を一滴も飲んでいません。

　酒を全く飲んでいないので体と脳がアルコールにサヨナラしている最中のようです。

頭が少しクリアになりました。

とにかく眠たいので昼寝をしています、夜もちゃんと寝ています。

のどが渇いて水や飲み物をたくさん飲むようになりました。

食事の量が自分で驚くほど増えました。

ブランチをたくさん食べて夕食は簡単に済ませています。

　朝はお腹が減って仕方がないのでマンゴーとヨーグルトを食べて腹をなだめてシャワーを浴びます。

洗濯をしてあれやこれやで１０時頃になります。

食事の時間です。

この日はパスタの大盛りとじゃがいもグラタンと目玉焼きを食べました。

　乳糖不耐症で困っていましたがラクタイドが通販で買えるので乳製品は全面解禁です。

ラクタイドを飲むとお腹がゆるくなる代わりにお腹がぐるぐる鳴ってガスが多くなります。

　和食は次の機会に掲載します。

みなさんとの一番の違いはぬか漬けだと思います。

ぬか漬けは１８年続いたので味が練れてきました。

I've surprisingly increased the amount of food I eat.
I have a big brunch and a light dinner.

 I'm incredibly hungry in the morning, so I have mango and yogurt to settle my stomach, then take a shower.
I do some laundry and do other things, so it's around 10 o'clock before I can eat.
It's time to eat.
On this day, I had a large portion of pasta, potato gratin, and a fried egg.

 I was struggling with lactose intolerance.
I am eating dairy products because I can buy Lactaid online now.
When I drink Lactaid, my stomach rumbles, and I get a lot of gas.
It doesn't cause loose bowels.

The most significant difference between you guys and me is my rice bran pickles.
I've been making rice bran pickles for 18 years, so the flavor has really developed.

When I came back into the room, the places I'd been bitten started to itch.
I had three mosquito bites.

ご飯をおいしく炊くには。 To cook tasty rice.

　何度もここに書いていますがボホールの水道は水質がよくありません。

濾過しきれない石灰の粉が混ざっています。

飲用には適しません。

体やものを洗うのには問題ありません。

　ご飯を炊く時に水道の水で米をとぐとおいしく炊けません。

米が水道水を吸って苦くなります。

飲料水を使って米をとぐと甘みのあるご飯が炊きあがります。

10ガロン入りの飲料水のタンクの水を1/4ほど使います。

10ガロンは約３７．８kgですからおおよそ１０リットルの水で米をとぐことになります。

 As I've written many times here, the quality of tap water in Bohol is not good.
It contains lime powder that cannot be completely filtered out.
It is not suitable for drinking.
It is fine for washing my body and things.

 If you rinse rice with tap water before cooking, it will not cook well.
The rice will absorb the tap water and become bitter.
If you rinse rice with drinking water, the rice will taste sweeter.
Use about 1/4 of the water from a 10-gallon drinking water tank.
10 gallons is about 37.8 kg, so you will need approximately 10 liters of water to rinse the rice.
