せみ時雨。 The sound of cicadas.

　せみ時雨と言っても藤沢周平さんの　蝉時雨　のように格調の高いものではありません。

　ボホールに住んで一番驚いたのはセミの鳴き声が聞こえない事でした。

緑が豊かであちこちに林があるのに蝉の声を聴いた事がありませんでした。

はじめに住んだトロピックスの近くでも２番目に住んだウブハンでもセミの声を聴くことはありませんでした。

　ある日少し離れた林からセミの鳴き声が聞こえたような気がしました。

近くの林を何か所か回りましたが蝉は鳴いていませんでした。

　暫くするとまた少し離れた林からセミの鳴き声が聞こえたような気がしました。

原因が解りました。

私の耳鳴りのせいでした。

今まで耳鳴りを経験したことがないので　ジー　チー　が低く断続的に続く耳鳴りをせみ時雨と勘違いしました。

　耳鳴りがする日としない日があります。

午前にすることもあるし午後にすることもあります。

天候には関係がないようです。

ノイズレスヘッドホンのせいかなと思い使うのを止めましたが関係はありませんでした。

耳鳴りは夜寝るときの静かなシーンと言う音とは別に　ジー　チー　が断続的に続きます。

耳鳴りがしても耳が痛んだり頭が痛んだりすることはありません。

 Even though it's called Cicada Chirps, it's not as elegant as the novel Cicada Chirps by Shuhei Fujisawa.

 What surprised me most about living in Bohol was not hearing the chirps of the cicadas.

Even though it's lush green and there are woods everywhere, I've never heard a cicada.

I never heard a cicada near the Tropics, where I first lived, or in Ubuhan, where I lived second.

 One day, I thought I heard a cicada chirp from the woods a little distance away.

I walked around several nearby forests, but there were no cicada chirps.

 After a while, I thought I heard a cicada chirp from the woods a little distance away again.

 I found out the cause.

It was because of my tinnitus.

I'd never experienced tinnitus before, so I mistook the low, intermittent ringing in my ears for a cicada chirp.

 Some days I have tinnitus and some days I don't.

Sometimes it's in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon.

It doesn't seem to be related to the weather.

I thought it might be because of the noiseless headphones, so I stopped using them, but it turned out not to be related.

Tinnitus is separate from the quiet sound I hear when I go to sleep at night.

The tinnitus doesn't cause any ear or head pain.
