I bought a new shelf that's two sizes larger and sturdier.

Since I live by the sea, it rusts from the sea breeze.

整理整頓はするべきもの、してみるもの。 Tidying up and organizing are things that should be done, things that should be tried.

よいものを見つけました。　

持ち物の整理をしていたら前に作ったメタルフレームの眼鏡が出てきました。

フィット感がいいのでそれを使っています。

夜間の給水に加えて午後の給水が始まりました。

貯水タンクの水がよく循環するようにシャワーヘッドを大きな水量の多いものに変えました。

浴びる水量が多いとゆったりとした気持ちになります。

　シャワーの水流と脈絡はありませんがシャワーを浴びながら気分はワールドカッパーという言葉を思い出しました。

ゲレンデのコース幅をいっぱいに使って浅いロングターンを繰り返していた時に使っていた言葉です。

　最近、四、五十年前の出来事が頭に浮かんでくるようになりました。

恥ずかしい出来事もあります。

そんな時は思わずワーっと大きな声を出してしまいます。

爪切り。 Nail clippers.

 

　爪が巻き爪気味なので時々爪の横が痛みます。

酒をやめたせいでしょうか体が柔らかくなったようです。

屈んで足の爪が楽に切れるようになりました。

爪を切ったあとはアルコールで消毒しています。

左端は鼻毛きりです。

爪を切る時に鼻毛をそろておくと鼻がムズムズしません。

　爪切りのメーカーを調べてみたら貝印でした。

鰹節を削る鉋も貝印です。

貝印の刃物は切れ味が良くて安価です。

そして長持ちします。

かれこれ２０年以上使っています。

 My toenails tend to grow in, so the sides of my nails sometimes hurt.
Perhaps it's because I stopped drinking alcohol, but my body seems to have become more flexible.
I can now easily cut my toenails while bending down.
After cutting my nails, I disinfect them with alcohol.
The item on the far left is a nose hair trimmer.
If I trim my nose hairs at the same time I cut my nails, my nose doesn't get itchy.

 I looked up the manufacturer of the nail clippers, and it was Kai Corporation.
The plane I use to shave bonito flakes is also Kai Corporation.
Kai Corporation blades are sharp and inexpensive.
And they last a long time.
I've been using them for over 20 years.

やはり水量も欲しいです。 I still want more water after all.

 

　節水のため水量が少なく水圧の強いシャワーヘッドに替えましたが・・・

水量が少ないと石鹸をきれいに洗い流せません。

水圧があり水量も適度に多いシャワーヘッドに換えました。

　シャワーを浴びてさっぱりしてリラックスしたいんです。

シャワーを浴びたあと気のせいかもしれませんが石鹸が肌に残っていると気持ちが落ち着かないんです。

気持ちって生きていくうえで大切ですよね。

なんかいやだなあ　という気持ちを引きずりたくないんです。

気分次第　という言葉があります。

気分次第で食べ物の味も変わるし、見ている風景も変わります。

自分の気持は大切にしたいですね。

 I want to take a shower to feel refreshed and relaxed.

After showering, it might just be my imagination, but if soap residue remains on my skin, I feel uneasy.

Feelings are important for living, aren't they?

I don't want to dwell on negative feelings.

There's a saying, "It all depends on your mood."

The taste of food changes depending on your mood, and even the scenery you see changes.

I want to cherish my own feelings.

汚れていました、二度洗いしました。

It was dirty, so I washed it twice.

　

　マットレストップを使わずに久しぶりにベッドパッドを使ってベッドメイクしました。

今夜はどんな夢をみるのかなあ・・・

 For the first time in a while, I made the bed using a mattress pad instead of the mattress top.
I wonder what kind of dreams I'll have tonight...

歯磨きは進化しない。 Toothpaste never evolves.

 

　歯磨きにコルゲートとシステマをかわるがわる使っています。

歯を磨いたあとに物を食べるとまずいですね。

果物は甘みと酸味が感じられません。

ご飯も味噌汁も味が変わります。

 ”歯磨き粉の成分や清涼感が口からなくなるまで、歯磨き後30分ほど時間を空けるか、よくうがいをしてから飲食するのが良いでしょう。”

という指摘があります。

いつも歯磨き粉の添加物をなんとかしてくれと思いながら歯を磨いています。

 I alternate between Colgate and Systema toothpaste.
Eating after brushing my teeth tastes bad.
I can't taste the sweetness or sourness of fruit.
Even rice and miso soup taste different.

 There's a suggestion that "it's best to wait about 30 minutes after brushing your teeth, or rinse thoroughly before eating or drinking, to allow the toothpaste's ingredients and refreshing sensation to dissipate from your mouth."
I think about this every time I brush my teeth.

Can't something be done about these additives?

いやー、これにしてよかった。 I'm so glad I bought this.

 

　今回アマゾンで買った直径12ｃｍのシャワーヘッドです。

５％の節水型です。

やっとシャワーの水圧の強さと温水器の温度の調整がうまくゆくようになりました。

使うたびに　いやー、これにしてよかった　と独り言を言っています。

 This is the 12cm diameter shower head I bought on Amazon.
It uses 5% less water.
I can finally adjust the water pressure in the shower and the temperature of the water heater properly.
Every time I use it, I talk to myself, "I'm so glad I bought this."

スマホ。 Smartphone.

　スマホのスイッチを入れるとドコモdocomoの文字が画面に浮かんできました。

新しいスマホと間違えてスイッチを入れました。

大きさは違いますが色が一緒です。

のんびりと弛緩して生きているのでささいな事を間違えます。

間違いが実害にならないことが幸いしています。

　docomoは理由のわからない高額請求を３ヶ月続けています。

いわれのない請求を受けないためにスマホのSIMカードをぬいて電源をOFFにしています。

そのせいでしょうか今月分の請求は基本料金のみでした。

日本に帰りドコモに着くまでこの状態を続けます。

　日本から電話がかかってくることはありません。

用事のある人はメールを送ってきます。

１０年前からメールの数は激減しました。

友人と仕事関係の知人が減っているので仕方のないことです。

　こちらではスマホは必需品です。

送金等の送金に電話番号とIDは必須です。

連絡は通話より安いメッセージが送られてきます。

私は不器用なのでスマホの小さなキーボードが苦手です。

連絡のメッセージが来るたびに返信の文を打ち間違えています。

返信に時間がかかります。

 When I turned on my smartphone, the words "docomo" appeared on the screen.
I turned it on by mistake, thinking it was my new smartphone.
The two smartphones are different sizes but the same color.
I live a laid-back life, so I make small mistakes.
I'm glad that my mistakes don't cause any real harm.

 Docomo has been charging me high amounts for no apparent reason for the past three months.
To avoid receiving unjustified charges, I've removed the SIM card from my smartphone and turned it off.
Because of that, this month's bill was only the basic fee.
I will continue this way until I return to Japan and reach the Docomo store.

 I never receive phone calls from Japan.
People who have business with me send emails.
The number of emails I receive has decreased dramatically over the past 10 years.
It can't be helped, as I have fewer friends and business acquaintances.

 A smartphone is a necessity here.
A phone number and ID are required for sending money.
Everyone communicates by messaging, which is cheaper than calling.
I'm clumsy and have trouble using the small keyboard on my smartphone.
Every time I receive a message from someone, I make mistakes when replying.
It takes me a long time to reply to them.

買い替えました。I replaced them.

　こちらで１８年間使い続けたオーブントースターが壊れました。

一回り大きなものを買いました。

　前に買った時は品数も少なく買う商品を決めるのは簡単でした。

今は商品の品揃えが多いのでどれを買ったらいいのか迷いました。

 The toaster oven I had been using here for 18 years finally broke.

I bought a bigger one.

 The last time I bought one, there weren't many items available, so it was easy to decide what to buy.

Now there are so many items available that it's hard to decide what to buy.

　１５年使ってきたアンドロイドのセルフォンを買い替えました。

同じAシリーズにしたので操作に違和感はありません。

アンドロイドの１６のバージョンが欲しかったんです。

　今使っているアンドロイドセルフォンはバッテリーを交換しているので普段使うのに機能的な問題はありません。

新しいセルフォンに問題が起きたときのために保管しました。

　普段はWindous11でChromeのブラウザーを使っています。

旅行や外出時にChromeのノートパソコンとアンドロイドタブレットをつかいます。

Googleのドライブとフォトをメモ代わりに使っているのでアンドロイドのスマホならPCと情報を共有できます。

違うOSのセルフォンでは情報の共有はできません。

 I replaced my Android phone, which I've been using for 15 years.

I chose the same A series, so there's no problem with operation.

I wanted Android version 16.

 I've replaced the battery on my current Android cell phone, so there are no functional issues with everyday use.

I kept it in case I have a problem with my new phone.

 I usually use Windows 11 with the Chrome browser.

When I travel or go out, I use a Chrome laptop and an Android tablet.

I use Google Drive and Photos for notes, so with an Android phone, I can share information with my PC.

Information cannot be shared with cell phones that use a different OS.

どれが一番古いのか。 Which item is the oldest?

　ざるを洗いながら思いました。

このざるは日本で１５年以上使っているね。

こちらに来てから１８年経ったね。

無印は長持ちするね。

家の中にあるもので何が一番古いのか気になりました。

 I thought about this while washing the colander.
I've been using this colander in Japan for over 15 years.
It's been 18 years since I moved here.
MUJI products last a long time.
I thought about what the oldest item in my house is.

　この組皿は友人の結婚式の引き出物です。

５５年使っています。

 This set of plates was a wedding favor for my friend.
I've been using it for 55 years.

　このスプーンは私の生後まもなく使いだしたものです。

食卓に私だけ家族と違うスプーンがでてくるので母に聞きました。

”なんで僕だけスプーンが違うの”

”そのスプーンは柔らかく歯を傷めないのであんたの離乳食の時から使っているの”

”嫌だったら変えるけど”

”変えなくていいよ”

推定７９年使っています。

 I started using this spoon shortly after I was born.
I was the only one at the dinner table with a different spoon than the rest of the family, so I asked my mother.

I've been using it for an estimated 79 years.

　この山桜の木の皮を貼った茶筒は私が物心ついたころから使い続けています。

たぶんこれが一番古いものだと思います。

　シャワーの給湯器から水が漏り温度の調整が出来なくなりました。

新しいものと交換しました。

　ハードウエアの店で”シャワーの給湯器が壊れました”どれが一番いいですかと聞きました。

"シャワーを浴びたいので今日買ったものを取り付けてもらえますか"と聞くと"今日の午後私が取り付けます"というありがたいお話でした。

彼に勧められたものを買いました。

彼は熟練した電気技師でした。

　日本製の給湯器は３年で駄目になりました。

冷蔵庫３台のうちの２台は日本製です、冷えがよくありません、異音を出します。

他の１台はよく冷えて静かです。

　こちらの家電売り場から日本製は姿を消しました。

円の価値と家電の品質は連動しているようです。

 Water leaked from my shower water heater, and I could no longer adjust the temperature.
I replaced it with a new one.

At a hardware store, I said, "My shower water heater is broken," and asked the clerk which one would be best.

"I want to be able to take showers, so could you install the one I bought today?" I replied, and he said, "I'll install it this afternoon."
I bought the one he recommended.
He is a skilled electrician.

 My Japanese-made water heater broke after three years.
Two of our three refrigerators are Japanese-made, and they don't cool well and make strange noises.
The other one cools well and is quiet.
 Japanese-made products have disappeared from the home appliance section here.
The value of the yen and the quality of home appliances are linked.

ゆったりとシャワーを浴びたい。 I feel like taking a relaxing shower.

　ゆったりとシャワーを浴びたくなりました。

水がたくさん流れる節水型ではないシャワーヘッドを買いにモールにゆきました。

今使っている節水式の小ぶりのシャワーヘッドは穴が小さいので水圧はありますが水の流量が少ないので石鹸をきれいに洗い流せません。

あれこれ迷ってシャワーヘッドを２つ買いました。

そのうちの一つは湯量たっぷりタイプでした。

水道は加圧ポンプと加圧槽を使っているので流水量は充分にあります。

シャワーを浴びていると加圧ポンプが動き始めます。

節水型のシャワーヘッドではないのでこれは仕方のないことです。

　モールはどこもかしこもクリスマスのデコレーションでいっぱいでした。

日本にいた時には折りたたみ式のクリスマスツリーを飾っていましたがこの国にはそんなものはありません。

ここではおおきくて幅のあるものがベストのようです。

　日本では正月の飾りは毎年新しいものに変えます。

クリスマスツリーも針葉樹の匂いのいいものを毎年取り替えるのが本筋なんでしょうね。

クリスチャンではない私はそんな事を考えながらデコレーションを見ていました。

The small showerhead I'm using now is a water-saving model.
It has small holes, so there's water pressure.
However, the water flow is low, so it doesn't rinse soap off properly.
I bought two large shower heads.
One of them was a type with a high water flow.
The water supply uses a pressure pump and a pressure tank, ensuring a steady flow.
I'm showering, and the pressure pump starts running.
This is unavoidable, since it's not a water-saving showerhead.

The mall was draped in Christmas decorations.
When I was in Japan, they put up folding Christmas trees.
Folding Christmas trees don't exist in this Christian country.
Large, wide ones are best.

 In Japan, too, New Year's decorations are changed every year.

The main point is to replace Christmas trees every year with conifers that have a pleasant scent.

As a non-Christian, I thought about this as I looked at the decorations.

布団カバー。 Comforter covers.

 

　コロナワクチンの副作用に苦しんでいた時期がありました。

寒気がして寝汗が酷いので寝具の洗濯が追いつきませんでした。

その時に布団カバーを４枚作りました。

使わないと勿体ないのでタオルケットの代わりに使っています。

タオルケットよりも乾きは速いです。

クイーンサイズなのでゆったりしています。

 There was a time when I was suffering from side effects from the COVID-19 vaccine.

I had chills and sweated a lot at night, so I couldn't keep up with washing my bedding.

At that time, I made four comforter covers.

It would be a waste not to use them, so I use them instead of towel blankets.

They dry faster than towel blankets.

They're queen-size, so they're very spacious.

私は今新しい静かなものを使っています。 I'm now using the new, quiet ones.

　歯医者へ行くと壁掛け式の新しい扇風機が冷えた空気をかきまわしていた。

首振り音もファンの回転音もとても静かだった。

いますまいでは１８,１５年前に買ったものを使っているが雑音が多く首振りも滑らかではない。

床置き式を２個買った。

静かで滑らかに首をふる扇風機はストレスがない。

古いものは使う人に引き取ってもらって新しいものを使っている。

 When I went to the dentist's, I noticed a new wall-mounted fan circulating cool air.
The sound of the fan oscillating and rotating was barely audible.
I still use ones I bought 15 or 18 years ago, but they're noisy and don't oscillate smoothly.
I bought two floor-standing fans.
Having quiet fans that oscillate smoothly is stress-free.
I gave the old ones to someone who wanted them.
I'm now using the new, quiet ones.

寝具を買うのはこの店に決めました。 I've decided to buy my bedding from this store.

　国道沿いに寝具の専門店がありました。

モールの売り場と対応が違います。

店員さんは専門知識を持っているのでサイズを言うと商品を何種類か見せてくれました。

試しに大きな枕とピローケースとwサイズのボックスシーツを買いました。

使い心地はいいですね、寝具を買うのはこの店に決めました。

 There was a bedding specialty store along the national highway.

The service was unlike that on the mall's sales floor.

The staff had specialized knowledge, so when I told them the size I wanted, they showed me several different products.

I bought a large pillow, pillowcase, and double-sized fitted sheet to try them out.

They're all very comfortable, so I've decided to buy my bedding from this store.

卓上ランプ。 The desk lamp.

　机の上で使う電気スタンドが壊れたので新しいスタンドに変えました。

照射角度の調整がうまくゆかないのでまだなじめません。

 The desk lamp I use on my desk broke, so I replaced it with a new one.
I can't get used to it because I can't adjust the angle of the light properly.
