停電と断水の置き土産。 Souvenirs from power outages and water shortages.

　以前にボホール島を台風が横断して被害が大きく停電が長く続きました。

そして水道局の給水ポンプが動かず断水が長く続きました。

私の住まいは台風の強風豪雨時に窓のアルミサッシュから室内に水が入り掃除が大変でした。

　こちらでは普段ビーチサンダルを履いて生活しています。

足が蒸れることはありません。

足が洗えなかったせいなのか断水中に水虫が再発しました。

水虫菌・白癬菌は死なずに再発出来るときを待っていたようです。

　水虫の痒さはそうでもないんですが皮がむけたりぶつぶつが出来たりするのが嫌で薬を塗っています。

この水虫は強いというかしつこいというかなかなか退散してくれません。

台風の置き土産の措置に困っています。

 The athlete's foot isn't that itchy, but I hate the peeling skin and bumps that form, so I apply medicine.

This athlete's foot is strong, or rather persistent, and doesn't go away easily.

I'm not sure what to do about the souvenirs left behind by the typhoon.

シャワーヘッド 。 The shower head.

　白いシャワーヘッドは水の勢いが強すぎて顔の石鹸をすすいでいると水が閉じた目や耳の奥に入った。

大きくて水の流れる穴の多いシャワーヘッドに交換した。

新しいシャワーヘッドはシャワーの水を吐き出す穴の数が多いせいで水の流れが多くなり水勢が少し優しくなった。

シャワーヘッドの首の角度もちょうどいい。

これとは長い付き合いが出来そうだ。

　こちらの販売店の特徴は品物の種類が良く変わることと取り寄せが出来ないことだ。

シャワーヘッドは壊れやすい生活用品ではないが予備を買い置きすることにした。

 The white shower head had such a strong water pressure that when I was rinsing soap off my face, water got into my closed eyes and the back of my ears.

I replaced it with a larger shower head with more holes through which water can flow.

The new shower head has more outlets, so the water comes out better and with gentler pressure.

The angle of the shower head neck is also just right.

I think I'll be using this one for a long time.

 A distinctive feature of specialty stores in this country is that the types of products change often and cannot be ordered.

Shower heads are not everyday items that are likely to break, but I decided to buy a spare to keep on hand.

　１時間と言う短い時間でベッドとデュベ（薄い掛布団）を乾かす仕組みを作り上げました。

使うものは　椅子２脚　木材５枚　扇風機１台です。

　寝ると夜中に起きる事はあまりまりません。

毎夕シャワー浴びて洗濯したTシャツとショーツをつけて歯を磨けば寝る準備完了です。

大体８時頃には乾いたベッドと寝具の上で気持ちよく伸びをしています。

その時に枕の調整をしながら　今以上に心地よく寝具が整えられたらいいな　と言う単純な発想が発展してこの形となりました。

唯一の危険はありえない事ですが扇風機のモーターの過熱なので外出する時には扇風機のスイッチを切ります。

　昼寝の時間を入れると毎日１０時間以上ベッドで寝ています。

このシステムを取り入れてから枕カバーはもちろんシーツも毎日交換するようになりました。

昼寝で汗をかいたときには日に２回シーツを交換します。

　話が長くなるので枕の材質の話は次回に・・・。

 I created a system that dries a bed and duvet (thin comforter) in just one hour.

All I need is two chairs, five pieces of wood, and one fan.

 When I go to sleep, I don't wake up in the middle of the night.

Every evening, I take a shower, put on a clean T-shirt and shorts, brush my teeth, and I'm ready to go to sleep.

By around 8 o'clock, I'm stretching out comfortably on my dry bed and bedding.

At that time, I adjusted my pillow and thought it would be nice to make my bedding more comfortable than it was now, and this simple idea has developed into what it is today.

 The only danger, which is unlikely, is the fan motor overheating, so I turn it off when I go out.

 Including naps, I sleep in bed for more than 10 hours every day.

Since I started using this system, I now change not only my pillowcases but also my sheets every day.

If I sweat during my afternoon nap, I change the sheets twice a day.

 This is a long story, so I'll save the discussion of pillow materials for next time.

　一人で住んでいると解ると　することが無くて困るでしょう　暇を持て余すでしょう　等と言う輩が居る。

彼らは奥さんに掃除・洗濯・料理・買い物をしてもらっている輩である。

彼らは単身赴任を経験したことが無いのだろう。

彼らは家事の大変さを分かっていないのだ。

　飯を食うにはそれを作る必要がある。

汚れた食器は洗わなければいけない。

彼は彼の妻の家事の大変さを全く理解していないのだ。

そんな基本的なことも分からない輩に説明するのは面倒なので説明する気にならない。

面倒くさいので愛想笑いをして　まあね　と答えるが彼らは追及を止めない。

おまけに　酒が自由に飲めていいですね　等と見当はずれの事を言い出す。

どうにも困った人たちが居るのである。

They are the kind of people whose wives do the cleaning, laundry, cooking, and shopping for them.

They probably have no experience of living alone.

They don't understand how hard housework is.

 To eat, you need to cook it.

Dirty dishes have to be washed.

They have no idea how hard housework is for their wives.

I find it troublesome to explain such basic things to people who don't understand them, and I don't feel like explaining them.

Because it's troublesome, I just smile politely and say, "Yeah, I guess so," but they don't stop questioning me.

What's more, they start saying completely inappropriate things like, "It's great that you can drink as much alcohol as you want."

These people are really troublesome.

コーヒー豆のグラインダーで豆の粒度を細かくしました。

味が変わりました。

美味しいコクのある味になりました。

何事も試してみるもんだなあ　と思いました。

　このグラインダーのコーヒー豆の粗い粒の目盛りはパーコレーター用のようです。

今回はパーコレーターの粗さの目盛りを無いものにしてその中間を選びました。

　前回の停電時にこのグラインダーが使えないのでコーヒー豆を手で挽きました。

その時の挽いたコーヒー豆の粉が細かくコーヒーの味が変わったことがヒントになりました。

その携帯用のグラインダーは豆の粗さをバネとナットで調整するタイプです。

日本に持って行った時にしかそれを使うことはありません。

ものはためし　という諺があります。

本当だねえ　と改めて思いました。

I thought it was good to try everything.

 The scale for coarse coffee beans on this grinder is for a percolator.

This time, I did not use the percolator scale.

 I chose a coarseness between the scales.

 During the last power outage, I couldn't use this grinder, so I ground the coffee beans by hand.

The coffee beans I ground then were finer, and the taste of the coffee changed, which gave me a hint.

This portable grinder is the type that uses a spring and nut to adjust the coarseness of the beans.

I will only use it when I take it to Japan.

There is a saying that goes, "There's no harm in trying."

I was reminded that this is true.
