　散歩の途中で見つけたカカオの実です。

初めてみました。

幹に実がなるんですね。

幹生果っていうんですね。

　熱帯の木が茂ったとこらで大型動物に見つかりやすく・食べてもらいやすくするために幹になっているようです。

大きく自重があるので枝になると枝が折れてしまいます。

蟻や蚊などの小さな昆虫に受粉してもらう目的もあるようです。

　ココアにココアパウダーを混ぜて飲んでいます。

中の実はどうなっているんでしょうか、気になります。

人様のものなのでもぐわけにもいきません。

 I came across this cacao fruit while out for a walk.
It was the first time I’d ever seen one.
I learned that the fruit grows directly on the trunk—a phenomenon known as *cauliflory*.

 It seems that for these tropical trees, growing fruit on the trunk makes it easier for large animals to spot and eat them.
The fruit is large and heavy; if it grew on the branches, the weight would likely cause them to snap.
Apparently, this placement also helps small insects like ants and mosquitoes pollinate it.

 I often drink cocoa made with cocoa powder.
I’m curious about what the inside of this fruit looks like.
Of course, since it belongs to someone else, I can't just pick it.
