さしたる年末の感傷もありません。I'm not feeling particularly sentimental about the end of the year.

　日本の気温をネットで見ました。

沖縄の気温が一番高いと思っていました。

小笠原諸島の南鳥島の気温が日本で一番高いんですね。

今住んでいる場所の朝６時頃の気温と一緒です。

　こちらは今雨季です。

雨がよく降るので空が曇り太陽の光が遮断され雨の冷却効果で気温はあまり上がりません。

最高気温は２９、３０℃くらいです。

　暦をみるともう１２月の半ばを過ぎています。

正月も近いなと感じます。

気持ちの上で慌ただしさを感じることはありません。

挨拶の賀状を出さなくなったので特にすることもありません。

することといえばクリスマスの混雑と年末年始の混雑を避けて食料を確保することくらいです。

　餅はホームベーカリーでつきます。

もち米の質が良くなったのでこちらに来たばかりの頃のように灰色がかった餅が出来ることはなくなりました。

　酒をやめているので質の良い時間がたっぷりとあります。

深夜特急や手持ちの小説は２回読み返しました。

この先は著作権の切れた小説をネットで読んでゆきます。

 I saw the temperature in Japan online.
I thought Okinawa had the highest temperature.
Minamitorishima in the Ogasawara Islands holds the record for Japan's highest temperature.
It's the same temperature as where I live now, at around 6 am.

 It's the rainy season here right now.
Because it rains a lot, the sky is cloudy, blocking out the sunlight, and the rain's cooling effect keeps the temperature from rising much.
The highest temperature is around 29-30°C.

 Looking at the calendar, we're already past the middle of December.
New Year's is approaching.
I don't feel rushed emotionally.
I don't send out greeting cards anymore, so there's nothing in particular to do.
All I do is avoid the crowds around Christmas and the New Year and make sure I have food.

 I make rice cakes in my bread maker.
The quality of the sticky rice has improved, so I no longer get the grayish sticky rice cakes I used to get when I first came here.

 

 The only problem is that I have a lot of free time now that I've quit drinking.
I've reread Midnight Express and the novels I have twice.
I'm thinking of reading out-of-copyright novels online.

年末だけじゃなくふだんもレジはフル稼働させてね。

　ゆったりとシャワーを浴びたくなりました。

水がたくさん流れる節水型ではないシャワーヘッドを買いにモールにゆきました。

今使っている節水式の小ぶりのシャワーヘッドは穴が小さいので水圧はありますが水の流量が少ないので石鹸をきれいに洗い流せません。

あれこれ迷ってシャワーヘッドを２つ買いました。

そのうちの一つは湯量たっぷりタイプでした。

水道は加圧ポンプと加圧槽を使っているので流水量は充分にあります。

シャワーを浴びていると加圧ポンプが動き始めます。

節水型のシャワーヘッドではないのでこれは仕方のないことです。

　モールはどこもかしこもクリスマスのデコレーションでいっぱいでした。

日本にいた時には折りたたみ式のクリスマスツリーを飾っていましたがこの国にはそんなものはありません。

ここではおおきくて幅のあるものがベストのようです。

　日本では正月の飾りは毎年新しいものに変えます。

クリスマスツリーも針葉樹の匂いのいいものを毎年取り替えるのが本筋なんでしょうね。

クリスチャンではない私はそんな事を考えながらデコレーションを見ていました。

I went to the mall to buy a showerhead that sprays a lot of water.

The small showerhead I'm using now is a water-saving model.
It has small holes, so there's water pressure.
However, the water flow is low, so it doesn't rinse soap off properly.
I bought two large shower heads.
One of them was a type with a high water flow.
The water supply uses a pressure pump and a pressure tank, ensuring a steady flow.
I'm showering, and the pressure pump starts running.
This is unavoidable, since it's not a water-saving showerhead.

The mall was draped in Christmas decorations.
When I was in Japan, they put up folding Christmas trees.
Folding Christmas trees don't exist in this Christian country.
Large, wide ones are best.

 In Japan, too, New Year's decorations are changed every year.

The main point is to replace Christmas trees every year with conifers that have a pleasant scent.

As a non-Christian, I thought about this as I looked at the decorations.

歯医者で痛む歯を抜いてもらって痛み止めを飲みました。

化膿止めの薬を処方してもらったので腫れていたリンパ腺も小さくなりました。

傷口がふさがるまではお粥で我慢します。

梅干しはお粥とあいますね、おいしいね。

I had my painful tooth removed at the dentist and took some painkillers.
I was prescribed an anti-inflammatory medicine, which has helped my swollen lymph nodes shrink.
I'll make do with porridge until the wound heals.
Umeboshi (pickled plums) go well with porridge; they taste good.

　１時間停電するとウオーター・ディスペンサーの水はぬるくなりました。

歯を抜きました。 I had a tooth extracted.

　きのうは歯をいれて歯の治療は終わる予定でした。

一昨日の昼からその場所の歯が痛みだし腫れました。

歯医者で麻酔をしてその歯を抜いてもらいました。

　抜歯後痛くてたまらないのでいつも飲まない鎮痛剤を飲みました。

今は歯を抜いたことが嘘のように痛みがありません。

そのせいで"歯を入れてから痛みだすより今日歯を抜いてよかった"とまともな事を考えられるようになりました。

一月後の歯科医の予約をしました。

　歯の治療をして要らなくなったものがあります。

歯に挟まる食べ物をの取り除く糸ようじと歯間の掃除をするフロスです。

それらはケースに入れて食後すぐに使えるようにしていましたが不要になったのでポリ袋に入れて輪ゴムを巻いて予備の歯ブラシの下に隠しました。

 I was supposed to get my tooth put in yesterday and finish my dental treatment.

The tooth in that spot started to hurt the day before yesterday afternoon.

I had the tooth extracted by the dentist under anesthesia.

 The pain after the extraction was unbearable, so I took some painkillers, which I don't usually take. 

Now I'm pain-free, it's hard to believe I had a tooth extracted. 

 I've made an appointment with the dentist in a month. 

If it starts to hurt after the tooth is put in, I'll have to do it again. I'm now able to think sensibly, and feel glad that I had my tooth extracted today.

 I'm having dental treatment, so I no longer need some things.
They are dental flosses used to remove food from between teeth.
I had kept them in a case so I could use them immediately after eating.
Now that I no longer need them, I put them in a plastic bag, wrapped a rubber band around them, and hid them under my spare toothbrush.

　日本を１２／０８に出たEMS便が１２／１５にタグビラランの郵便局に着きました。

荷物の経路は日本→マニラ税関→タグビララン郵便局です。

７日間で着きました。

今迄と全く違う速さです。

コーヒー豆が届いたので喜んでいます。

手動のコーヒーミルがずっと欲しかったんです。

手でコーヒー豆を挽くと、均一な粒度になります。

電動グラインダーでコーヒー豆を挽くと、中くらいの粒、粗い粒、細かい粉が混ざった状態になります。

　ここに来た当時は　"市内の道路は未舗装で"　"市内に信号機は一つだけ"　でした。

今は舗装していない道路を見つけるのは大変です。

信号機はどこにでもあります。

　フィリピンで感心するのは政治意識の高さと80％を超える選挙の投票率です。

議員の贈収賄が発覚するとデモが起こりその議員の次回の当選は難しくなります。

　日本の投票率は５８％を超えません。

議員の贈収賄・不正な収入が発覚してもデモは起きず不正な行為を働いた議員が次回の選挙で当選する始末です。

両国の差は大きいですね。

　言語の問題は大きいですね。

英語を話せるフィリピン人は英語圏で沢山働いて高い賃金を得ています。

日本人は英語が話せないので国外に出て賃金の高い仕事を得ることが出来ません。

　ここにいると改善されてゆく国と後戻りしている国の差がはっきり見えます。

この国のモールでは高級品の品揃えが増えています。

日本では町のスーパーで買えた食べ物がデパートに行かないと買えなくなりました。

　話がそれてしまいましたね。

ここに書いたことは飾らない実感です。

　写真に写っていいないスニーカーやそのほかの品物の話はいずれ機会を見てブログにのせます。

 What is impressive about the Philippines is the high level of political awareness and the election voter turnout rate of over 80%.

When bribery by a member of parliament is discovered, demonstrations erupt, making it difficult for that member to be re-elected.

Japan's voter turnout rate never exceeds 58%.

Even when bribery and illegal income among lawmakers are uncovered, there are no demonstrations, and the lawmakers who committed the fraud are re-elected in the next election.

The difference between the two countries is enormous.

 Language is a big issue.

Filipinos who can speak English work in many English-speaking countries and earn high wages.

Japanese people cannot go abroad and get high-paying jobs because they cannot speak English.

 Being here, I can clearly see the difference between countries that are improving and those that are falling behind.
The malls in this country have a wider selection of luxury goods.
In Japan, food I could buy at the local supermarket is now only available at department stores.

　初めて生パスタをホームベーカリーで作りました。

粉は黄色いセモリナ粉を使いました。

生地を細く長く切るのは難しいのでピザカッターで菱形に切りました。

出来たパスタはトマト缶とイカとキャベツで和えました。

　モールにパルミジャーノがなかったのでこのチーズを買いました。

ペコリーノ・ロマーノは塩味がとてもいいですね。

 For the first time in my life, I made spaghetti in my bread maker. 

I used yellow semolina flour.
It's difficult to cut the dough into long, thin strips, so I cut it into diamond shapes with a pizza cutter.
I boiled it and then added canned tomatoes, squid, and cabbage.

 I couldn't find Parmigiano at the mall, so I bought this cheese instead.
It has a great salty flavor.

　きのうは土曜日で港は賑やかだった。

鍋釜食器にカラオケセットを持ち込んでいる人もいた。

昼飯の時間になっても大きなボリュウムのカラオケは続いていた。

　最近は彼らに便乗して部屋で大音量で音楽を聴いている。

外の彼らの歌が聞こえなくなるまで音量をあげている。

いつも低い音量で音楽を聞いている。

スピーカーのコーン紙（振動して音を出す紙）は強い振動に慣れていない。

コーン紙は高音部や強い音の部分でビビった音を出す。

スピーカーの慣らしとしても大音量で聞くは有効だ。

　前は彼らの音楽がうるさいので外部の音を遮断するヘッドホンを使っていた。

ヘッドホンのサラウンドも飽きるし耳が蒸れて困った。

そして　てめーら　うるせえなあ　と思いながら聴いていたので精神衛生上も良くなかった。

今は　耳が蒸れることがない　相手が音量を上げてくれればこちらも音量をあげられるので　ストレスがない。

精神衛生上とてもいい。

大音量で音楽を聞くのは気持ちのいいものだということが解った。

一つ心の鎖がほどけた。

寝るときに聞く音量の低いバックグラウンドミュージックは心地よい。

 Lately, I've been joining them and listening to music at full volume in my room.

I turn up the volume until I can't hear them singing outside.

I always listen to music at a low volume.

The speaker cones (the paper that vibrates and produces sound) are not used to strong vibrations.

The cones make a buzzing sound in high-pitched and loud parts.

Listening to speakers at high volumes is also an effective way to break them in.

 Previously, their music was too loud, so I used headphones that blocked out outside noise.

I got tired of the surround sound from headphones, and my ears would get sweaty, which was a problem.

I would listen to them thinking, "They're so noisy," so it wasn't good for my mental health.

Now my ears don't get sweaty, and if the other person turns up the volume, I can turn it up too, so there's no stress.

It's great for my mental health.

I've learned that listening to music at a loud volume feels good.

I've loosened a chain on my mind.

Listening to low-volume background music while I sleep is soothing.

　先日ドコモのSIMカードを取り出した時にこじ開けたSIMカードの出し入れ口を修理に出しました。

スマホを指さして　ここを修理してください　と頼むと相手はピンを使って開け閉めして　壊れていないわよ　と言いました。

あんた、ピン持っていないの　と言われて頭の中で　ピンはあるけど開かないんだ　と作文していると　いいわ、このピンあげるわ　こう使うのよ　わかった　と言われたので頷きました。

　家に帰って机の上で　スマホにSIMを入れて　機内モードにして　WIFIとブルートゥースをOFFにして　SIMカードを無効にして　スマホのスイッチを切りました。

　SIMとスマホの機能がすべてOFFになっているので通話料金・通信料は発生しようがありません。

再度高額請求がドコモからあった時には解約しか道は残されていません。

日本の友人・知人はメールで連絡をしてくるので　日本の電話番号は不要かな　と思っています。

I pointed at my smartphone and asked them to repair it, but the person used a pin to open and close it and said it wasn't broken.

My friends and acquaintances in Japan contact me by email, so I don't need a Japanese phone number.

　いつも日本からこの国への荷物の配送は親切な転送コムさんにお願いしています。

フィリピンのクリスマス時の荷物と税関の遅れを忘れていました。

　前にディンギー（小型のヨット）を日本から１１月半ばに発送して手元に着いたのは翌年の３月半ばでした。

日本からこの国へは３、４日で到着しましたがそれからマニラの税関で缶詰状態になりました。

　今度の荷物はいつ手元に届くでしょうか？

早くて１月半ばでしょう。

普通に処理されれば２月半ばでしょう。

遅ければ３月になるかもしれません。

どうすりゃいいのよ思案橋です。

 I always use the friendly tenso.com service to deliver packages from Japan to this country.
I had forgotten about packages and customs delays during Christmas in the Philippines.

 I previously shipped a dinghy (small yacht) from Japan in mid-November, and it arrived in mid-March of the following year.
It arrived in this country from Japan in three or four days, but then it got stuck in customs in Manila.

 When will my next package arrive?
At the earliest, it will be mid-January.
If it's processed normally, it should be mid-February.
At the latest, it could be March.
I'm thinking about what to do, but I can't do anything.
