　ある大きな部品やさんは混雑するので番号札を持って順番を待ちます。

驚いたのは順番待ちの人が食べる有料の小袋入りのピーナツが置いてあったことです。

What surprised me was that they had small bags of peanuts available for purchase for people waiting in line.

　セルフォンに連絡が入りましたがビサヤ語なので意味がわかりません。

買い物の帰りに喫茶店のTOKOによりウエイトレスに　ビサヤ語は判りません　といってセルフォンを渡しました。

"通販の会社が今日品物を届ける"と書いてあるよと教えてくれました。

　家に戻り　もう午後の３時です　何時に来るんですか　と送信すると　近くにいるが場所がわからない　という返信がありました。

門の外に出て周りを見ているとトラックが停まりました。

品物を受け取りました。

重い思いをしてコメを運ばなくて良いので通販は便利ですね。

 I looked for Japanese rice, but couldn't find it in any supermarket.

I looked online and found that they did sell Japanese rice.

I avoided the short-grain rice grown in the Philippines and ordered Akita Komachi rice from Japan.

 I received a message on my cell phone, but it was in Visayan, so I couldn't understand it.

On my way home from shopping, I stopped by TOKO coffee shop and told the waitress I didn't understand Visayan, and handed her my cell phone.

She told me that a mail-order company said they would be delivering something today.

 I got home at 3pm and asked when you would arrive. 

He replied that he was nearby but unsure of his location.

I went outside the gate and looked around when I saw a truck parked there.

I picked up my order.

Mail order is convenient because you don't have to carry the heavy rice around.

　洗濯機に水を注ぐバルブが壊れて水が止まらなくなった。

ちょろちょろ水が流れて止まらないので流しの下の止水栓で水を止めた。

洗濯機に行く水は止まったが一緒に流し台の水も止まってしまった。

　食器は風呂場で洗っている。

洗った食器をプラスチックのトレイにのせて所定の場所にしまっている。

日本から持ってきた皿小鉢は割らないように注意している。

割ると割れた食器の後かたずけが面倒だ。

　何回か同じことを繰り返していると水場という言葉が頭の中に浮かんできた。

テントを張った時の炊事を思い出した。

　冬は水が凍ってしまうので雪・氷を石油ストーブで溶かして使っていた。

ガソリンストーブは火力が強いが炎が吹きあがってテントを燃やすのが怖いので使わなかった。

冬用のテントはビニロン製を使っていた。

水を吸うと重くなり凍るとガリガリに硬くなるテントだった。

テントの中で凍った水分が布についてキラキラ輝いていたことを今でもはっきりと覚えている。

話が飛んでしまった。

　近所の水道屋さんはメールで連絡しても返事が来ない。

忙しいのだろう、いつも2、3日後に連絡なしに来る。

今迄はご近所さんなので我慢していたがもう変えてもいい時期だろう。

新しい水道屋さんを探そう。

　ホームセンターに行って水の開閉弁関係の部品を探したが合うサイズがない。

結合した部品を外そうとしても外れない。

流し台を使えないと不便なので外した現物を持って栓に取り付ける部品を探し回っている。

 The valve that pours water into the washing machine broke, and the water wouldn't stop.

The water kept trickling and wouldn't stop, so I turned off the water using the stopcock under the sink.

The water to the washing machine stopped, but so did the water in the sink.

I wash dishes in the bathroom.

I put the washed dishes on a plastic tray and put them away in their designated place.

I'm careful not to break the plates and bowls I brought from Japan.

If I break them, it's a pain to clean up afterwards.

 After doing the same thing a few times, the word "water source" came to mind.

I remembered cooking when we set up our tent.

In winter, water would freeze, so we would melt snow and ice using a kerosene stove.

A gasoline stove has a lot of heat, but I didn't use it because I was afraid the flames would shoot up and burn the tent.

My winter tent was made of Vinylon.

It became heavy when it absorbed water and became very hard when it froze.

I still clearly remember how frozen water on the fabric inside the tent glistened.

But let's get back to the story.

 I've contacted the local plumber by email, but he hasn't replied.

He must be busy, as he always comes back 2 or 3 days later without any notice.

I've put up with it until now because he's my neighbour, but I think it's time for a change.

I'll have to find a new plumber.

 I went to the hardware store to look for parts related to the water on/off valve, but they didn't have any that fit.

I tried to remove the connected parts, but they wouldn't come off.

It's inconvenient not being able to use the sink, so I'm looking around with the removed part in hand to find a part to attach to the valve.

チョコは２粒。Two bitter pieces of Kiss chocolate.

　最近、チョコレートを食べる量が減りました。

チョコヌガーやチョコバーは食べたいと思いません。

食後に少しビターなキスチョコを２粒食べて満足しています。

　赤インゲン豆の寒天は食後の定番になりました。

生姜を少し入れたので喉に刺激がきます。

甘さも丁度いいので満足しています。

赤インゲン豆は熱湯をかけてから煮るより一晩水に漬けてから煮た方がおいしいですね。

重曹を少し入れると柔らかく煮えます。

　棒寒天を使い切りました。

これからは粉寒天を使ってゆきます。

 I've been eating less chocolate lately.

I don't feel like eating chocolate nougat or a chocolate bar anymore.

I'm satisfied with two slightly bitter pieces of Kiss chocolate after a meal.

 Red kidney bean agar has become a staple for me after meals.

I added a little ginger, which gives it a slight throat-tingling sensation.

The sweetness is just right, so I'm very satisfied.

Red kidney beans taste better if you soak them in water overnight before boiling them rather than pouring boiling water over them straight away.

Adding a little baking soda helps them to cook more evenly.

 I've used up all the agar sticks.

From now on, I'll be using powdered agar.

　On August 28, 2025, I visited a diving spot called Hagudan on Panglao Island.

It was cloudy.

The seawater was transparent and the temperature was 29 degrees Celsius.

　ストロボのスイッチを入れ忘れました。

写真は発色しませんでした。

　I didn't turn the strobe switch ON.

The photo didn't come out with good color reproduction.

窓枠のアルミのサッシは額縁です。 The aluminium window frame acts as a picture frame.

　台所の流し台の上の窓の網戸を緑色のツタが巻きひげをのばしてはりついています。

絵画のない住まいなので絵になるものは大歓迎です。

窓枠のアルミのサッシを額縁にみたてました。

蔦の鮮やかな新緑に見とれています。

 Green ivy has spread its tendrils and clings to the window screen above the kitchen sink.

As there are no paintings in this home, anything picturesque is very welcome.

I liken the aluminium window frame to a picture frame.

I am mesmerised by the vivid, fresh green of the ivy.

 I was going to a diving point named Duole at Panglao Island on August 28th, 2025.

It was cloudy.

The seawater had good transparency, and its temperature was 29 degrees Celsius.

思考に柔軟さがなくなった。 My thinking has become less flexible.

　汗で汚れたマットレスのカバーを洗いました。

マットレスのカバーが乾いた後でマットレスを中に入れるのが大変でした。

　今迄マットレスが汗で濡れると乾かすという対処をしてきました。

汗で汚れたマットレスを洗って清潔さを保つ根本的な対策が出来ませんでした。

マットレスをもう一つ用意して交互に使えばいつも乾燥したマットレスを使えます。

思考に柔軟性がなくなったなあ　と嘆きました。

思考の硬直は老化の始まりですね。

蔭の声：あんたは老化したれっきとした老人です。

 I washed the sweat-stained mattress cover.

It was difficult to put the mattress back inside once the cover had dried.

 Until now, I'd just let the mattress dry when it got sweaty.

I hadn't taken the fundamental step of washing the mattress and keeping it clean.

If I get another mattress and alternate using them, I can always have a dry one.

I lamented how inflexible my thinking had become.

Rigidity of thought is the beginning of ageing.

水道水。 Tap water.

 

　喜ぶべきことです。

水道水の給水時間が一日２回に増えました。

今迄は給水は一日１回夜の１０時過ぎに始りました。

今はそれに加えて昼過ぎから受水槽に水が入ってくるようになりました。

図は１０００ℓのタンクに水が5/4入っています。

給水されているのでまもなくタンクは満タンになるでしょう。

　おおよそ一人世帯の水道使用量は５５０ℓ/１日とされています。

１０００ℓのタンクがあれば１日充分に水は使えます。

シャワーを浴びる回数が多いので水道使用料は推定一日７００ℓ位でしょうか。

洗濯は色別に分けてすすぎを３回して楽しんでいます。

　今まで困ったのは市全体が夜間停電になった時でした。

水道局の給水ポンプが動かないので水道水が翌日の夜間まで受水槽に入ってきませんでした。

今後は停電になっても夜間・昼間に水道水の給水を受けられるので安心です。

 This is something to be happy about!

The water supply is now available twice a day.

Until now, water was supplied only once a day, after 10 pm.

Additionally, water will begin filling the tank from early afternoon.

The diagram shows a 1,000-litre tank that is 5/4 full.

Now that water is being supplied, the tank will soon be full.

 The average water usage for a one-person household is estimated to be 550 litres per day.

I enjoy doing laundry by separating it by color and rinsing it three times.

Considering my frequent showers, I estimate that my daily water usage hovers around an impressive 700 litres.

With a 1,000-litre tank, we have enough water for the day.

 The only problem we've had until now is when the entire city had a power cut at night.

The waterworks department's water supply pump wouldn't work, meaning water wouldn't reach the tank until the following night.

From now on, even if there's a power cut, we'll be able to get water at night and during the day, which will give us peace of mind.

揚げ玉。 Fried tempura bits.

　天ぷらを揚げて衣が余ったので麺類に使う揚げ玉を作りました。

サクッとしてとてもいいっ感じです。

こちらで買っている素麺とうどんの味が大きく変わりました。

ううむ　これはいい　なぜ今まで作らなかったのか　と自分を責めています。

底に揚げ玉の油をきる網のある容器があれば揚げ玉の作り置きが出来るので探しています。

 I had some leftover batter from frying the tempura, so I used it to make these bits, which I then used on noodles.

They were crispy and tasted good.

The somen and udon noodles, but the taste has changed dramatically.

This is good; I'm kicking myself for not doing it before.

I'm looking for a container with a strainer at the bottom to drain the oil from the fried tempura bits so I can make a batch of them in advance.
